A Revival of the Iconic Design with a Striking Two-Tone Dial
One of the most enduring examples of Oris’ design legacy is the Big Crown Pointer Date, a watch introduced in 1938 as the brand’s first purpose-built pilot’s timepiece. Defined by its oversized crown, large Arabic numerals, and distinctive pointer date complication, the watch combined clarity, elegance, and ergonomic practicality in a way that has stood the test of time. Nearly nine decades later, the Big Crown Pointer Date remains a cornerstone of the Oris collection and a true brand icon. Today, its story continues with the introduction of the Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye”.
The new Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye” reinterprets Oris’ signature design through a striking grey and black two-tone dial configuration that gives the watch its nickname. Paired with the oversized crown, fluted bezel, pointer date hand, and subtle red accents, the result is an instantly recognizable and highly appealing execution. Notably, this marks the return of a long-cherished design for the first time in nearly three decades. Even better, the “Bullseye” is not a limited edition but a regular addition to the collection.
The “Bullseye” dial itself is deeply rooted in Oris’ history. Two-tone dials of this type first appeared in the brand’s catalogue as early as the 1910s and resurfaced periodically over the decades, enjoying particular popularity in the mid-20th century. The most recent appearance dates back to 1998, after which the design disappeared from the collection—until now.
Housed in a stainless steel case measuring 38mm in diameter and 45.5mm lug-to-lug, the Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye” maintains well-balanced proportions. The case measures 12.2mm in thickness, including the double-domed sapphire crystal, and offers a water resistance of 50 meters. It features the signature oversized crown on the right side and Oris’ characteristic fluted bezel.
The two-tone dial combines black and white surfaces with a red date scale around the perimeter and a central pointer date hand tipped in red. The minute and seconds railway track sits against a light grey background, with black rails, black triangular markers at five-minute intervals, and a double marker at 12 o’clock.
Reversing the color scheme, the wider chapter ring is rendered in black and displays crisp white Arabic numerals, framing the light grey central bullseye. Classic cathedral-style hands, filled with white Super-LumiNova, complete the vintage-inspired aesthetic.
Powering the watch is the automatic Oris Calibre 754, based on the Sellita SW200 and modified with the brand’s signature pointer date complication. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 38 hours. Through the caseback, the movement is distinguished by Oris’ recognizable red rotor.
The new Oris Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye” is delivered on a black Cervo Volante sustainable deer leather strap, secured by a stainless steel pin buckle and equipped with a quick strap-change system. The watch is priced at USD 2,350, equivalent to approximately AED 8,630.
