Honouring the Fire Horse Year of the Chinese Zodiac
Oris remains one of the few Swiss watch manufacturers to preserve its independence while developing a modern identity anchored in in-house mechanical innovation. The brand’s Calibre 100 series marked a turning point in this journey, introducing long power reserve hand-wound movements conceived for daily practicality rather than technical excess. From this lineage emerged Calibre 113, a business calendar engine designed to bring useful complications into refined dress watch territory.

This year marks the arrival of the Fire Horse, a powerful cycle within Chinese astrology that appears once every 60 years. Oris has chosen this rare zodiac moment to introduce one of its most visually expressive releases, year of the horse limited edition, translating the symbolic energy of the Fire Horse into a watch defined by bold red tones that transform the business calendar architecture into a culturally inspired statement rooted in Chinese zodiac symbolism.

The watch is housed in a multi-piece stainless steel case measuring 43 mm in diameter with a thickness of 13.1 mm. A domed sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating protects the dial and enhances its depth. A sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the movement and carries special engravings dedicated to the edition. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.

The dial features a rich dark red surface enriched by layered gradient sub-dials that deepen toward the perimeter. Gold-plated hour and minute hands with luminous treatment ensure legibility, while applied indices are paired with Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock. The display integrates central indications for week and month, a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, a large date window, and a day aperture positioned at 12 o’clock. The power reserve is presented through a non-linear countdown display animated by two horse motifs that visually signal the remaining energy stored in the mainspring.

Powering the watch is the Oris Calibre 113, a manually wound in-house movement beating at 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and delivering a power reserve of 240 hours. The watch is paired with a dark brown Cordovan horsehide leather strap secured by a stainless steel folding clasp. The watch is limited to 88 individually numbered pieces and is priced at CHF 6,650, approximately AED 30,800.
