Introducing Omega Unveils the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light

In a previous article, we reported that the Swatch Group's profits fell by 70% in the first half of 2024. However, we also mentioned that the Swiss group remains optimistic for the year, as its largest watch company, Omega, eagerly anticipates the biggest sporting event in the world: the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. As the official sponsor of the competition, Omega is seizing this opportunity through special editions and collaborations with famous sports ambassadors, making the company’s name prominent throughout the event.

Earlier this year, Omega began offering Olympic-specific editions, starting with the Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 Edition. Omega subsequently launched the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Editions in both steel and gold. Recently, Omega honored Swedish pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis with the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m, inspired by the colors of the Swedish flag. Now, with the same athlete and the same collection, Omega offers an ultra-light watch made mostly of titanium, from the case to the dial, and even some of the movement components.

The New Seamaster Aqua Terra “Ultra Light” is a tribute to Swedish pole vault legend Armand “Mondo” Duplantis. The Olympic Games champion wore this timepiece when he claimed gold and set a new world record at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, clearing the bar at 6.25 meters.

Crafted from sand-blasted Grade 5 Titanium, the 41 mm case features a sand-blasted silicon nitride bezel ring. The crown, adorned with a yellow Omega logo, fits seamlessly into the flowing crown guard. The case thickness is 13.5 mm and is protected by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, offering water resistance up to 150 meters.

For the blue anodized dial, OMEGA has utilized sand-blasted Grade 5 Titanium and incorporated an engraved horizontal stripe pattern. Accompanying the blackened indices and hour-minute hands with Super-LumiNova, there is a yellow varnished 3D laser-shaped cylindrical central seconds hand, Its shape is inspired by the pole that athletes use in pole vault competitions.

Behind the sapphire crystal case back is the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8928 Ti, with the main plate and bridges made of titanium. We discussed this in detail in our article on the use of titanium in the watch industry. The movement beats at 25,200 vph (3.5 Hz) and offers a 72-hour power reserve from two barrels.

The watch is presented on a blue and yellow integrated strap made from rubber and nylon fabric. 

The entire watch comes in a special presentation box and is priced at EUR 56,900, which is equivalent to 228,200 AED.
