The brand’s most complex piece joins the permanent collection
Ochs und Junior is an independent Swiss watchmaker renowned for its innovative and minimalist ethos in watch design. The company frequently opts for a simplified assembly of components within their movements to enhance reliability and facilitate maintenance, as we saw in the brand’s most accurate moon phase. In 2018, the brand released its most complex pieces, the "Day/Night," with each piece made to order and theoretically unique. Now, Ochs und Junior is adding the "Day/Night" to its standard collection, the "ochs line."
Certainly, the duration of daylight and nighttime varies depending on the specific location. However, Ochs Line Day/Night watch features a custom-made component that synchronizes it with a chosen location. Furthermore, if your place of residence changes in the future, a new component accommodates the revised location, catering to both the northern and southern hemispheres.
The Ochs Line Day/Night watch shares dimensions with its predecessors, as it boasts a 40mm diameter and an 11mm thickness, crafted from two part grade 5 titanium with distinct visible machining marks, lending a unique character. Its sapphire crystal, enhanced with an anti-reflective coating, offers exceptional dial clarity. The case features a screw-down crown also made from grade 5 titanium, ensuring 100 meters of water resistance.
The dial is adorned with a dark blue hue that transitions elegantly to violet tones. The hands and indices are made out of brass. Distinctive daytime and nighttime indicators, surrounding the dial, further enhance the dial's allure, with daytime represented in brass and nighttime in a captivating dark blue-purple patina. The sun is crafted in hammered 24k yellow gold, while the moon is fashioned in hammered platinum. The dial also features a date window positioned at 6 o'clock in dark blue-purple patina with brass date numbers.
The dial of the watch features light and dark-colored areas indicating the length of day and night, with lines representing the horizon. The horizon fans adjust every 10 days to accommodate seasonal changes. During sunrise, the sun transitions from the darker to the lighter area, while at sunset, it moves from the lighter to the darker area. The central area of the dial represents the earth, with the moon's position relative to the sun indicating its phase. Solar noon can be set using the pusher at 6 o'clock.
The timepiece is powered by the Ulysse Nardin UN-320 base caliber, with an additional 13 parts for astronomical complications designed by Ludwig Oechslin. It features an automatic movement that operates at 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offers a 48-hour power reserve. The watch comes with an Ecopell Enzian leather strap with grade 5 titanium buckle and a leather pouch handmade by Sabina Brägger.
As we mentioned earlier the watch will join the permanent collection, and will be available at a price of CHF 10,700 which is equivalent to AED 44,000.
