Introducing Ochs und Junior Releases The Luna Sole Blue Patina

Expanding the Luna Sole with a silver case and blue dial

Ochs und Junior is a Swiss watch brand renowned for its innovative and minimalist approach to watch design. The brand is distinguished by its commitment to simplicity, frequently opting for a streamlined assembly of components within their mechanical watches. This design philosophy enhances the reliability of their timepieces and facilitates easier maintenance. These qualities contribute to Ochs und Junior's exceptional status in the watch industry. Among their notable releases are the Selene Nebra, featuring a patinated bronze dial, and the Ochs Line Day/Night, the brand’s most complex piece.

Ochs und Junior is now unveiling the 'Luna Sole Blue Patina White Gold Leaf,' featuring a Silver 925 case. This special edition pays tribute to Ferragosto, a culturally significant celebration held on August 15th that marks the peak of summer in Italy, kicking off a two-week vacation period that many Italians eagerly anticipate.

Just like the recently launched titanium Luna Sole, the new Luna Sole Blue Patina measures 40mm in diameter and 9mm in thickness. However, it comes in a sterling silver 925 case, which is an alloy composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, and its screw-down crown and closed caseback ensure 100m of water resistance.

At the center of the blue patina dial are two overlapping discs. The lower disc, known as the sky or sun disc, displays the sun as a large, round circle in white gold leaf on one side of the center, with a blue patina heart-shaped area on the opposite side. The upper disc represents the moon in white gold powder and is perforated with a hoop the size of the sun. As the heart-shaped blue patina area on the sky or sun disc rotates, the different moon phases of the lunation can be read using the lunar ring. The dial also features white gold leaf hour markers, central hour and minute hands, and the iconic 30+1 date holes, marked by a white gold leaf date dot.

The watch is powered by an ETA 2892-A2 base movement with a six-part module developed by Ludwig Oechslin, the man behind Ochs und Junior’s watches. This automatic movement operates at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), and has a 42-hour power reserve. The timepiece is paired with an Ecopell leather strap and a silver-plated buckle, and is priced at CHF 8,500, which is equivalent to AED 36,300.
