Enamel Dial Watch Supporting a Humanitarian Cause
Since its inception in 1971, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been a leader in delivering urgent medical care to those in need across the globe. Operating in more than 70 countries and upholding a commitment to impartial assistance, the organization has earned global acclaim, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. Since 2012, Nomos Glashütte, a renowned German watchmaker, has been known partnered with MSF. In their latest collaboration, the brand has unveiled the “Ludwig neomatik für Ärzte ohne Grenzen” watch in two sizes, with proceeds from the edition projected to total EUR 125,000, going directly to support the organization's humanitarian efforts.
The watch is available in two distinct case sizes, each showcasing a particularly fine bezel that enhances the overall elegance of the timepiece. The Ludwig neomatik 36 features a diameter of 36.4 millimeters, while the Ludwig neomatik 39 has a slightly larger diameter of 38.5 millimeters. Both models share a stainless steel polished tripartite case with a sapphire crystal glass back, offering a clear view of the movement inside. The anti-reflective coating on the inner side of the sapphire crystal glass ensures optimal visibility for the dial. With a slim height of just 7.0 mm, both versions maintain a sleek profile. The lug-to-lug measurements are 48.5 mm for the 38.5 mm version and 46.0 mm for the 36.4 mm version, providing comfortable wear. Additionally, both watches are splash-resistant with a water resistance rating of 50 meters.
The Ludwig neomatik für Ärzte ohne Grenzen features two dials that are both deeply meaningful. The enamel-white dial is highlighted by a bold red Roman numeral twelve, symbolizing solidarity and shared humanity, making a strong visual impact. The hands and typography are elegantly presented in black, contrasting beautifully with the white dial. A small seconds subdial sits above the 6 o’clock position, adding both functionality and balance to the design. An inscription at the same position honors the dedicated teams of the emergency aid organization around the world. Surrounding the dial is a black printed minute track, numbered at five-minute intervals, and Roman numerals, further enhancing the classic aesthetic. The design not only reflects timeless style but also supports a noble cause, as more than 11,000 NOMOS watches have already been sold to aid Doctors Without Borders' humanitarian efforts.
Both the Ludwig neomatik für Ärzte ohne Grenzen models are powered by the Caliber DUW 3001 automatic in house movement. This movement features the innovative NOMOS swing system, a groundbreaking mechanism that ensures outstanding accuracy, making it a standout in the world of watchmaking. With a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz), the Caliber DUW 3001 provides a power reserve of up to 43 hours. The movement also includes an Incabloc anti-shock system, offering enhanced durability. Additionally, the intricate côtes de Genève lines on the movement’s surface and rotor reflect NOMOS's dedication to craftsmanship, ensuring that each watch not only tells time accurately but also showcases remarkable mechanical beauty.
Both come with a black leather strap and a stainless steel pin buckle. Each size is a limited edition of 250 pieces and is priced at USD 3,700, approximately AED 13,700 for the 39mm version, and USD 3,360, approximately AED 12,400 for the 36mm size.
