Introducing New Kurono Tokyo Grand Series 2024 Anniversary Reiwa

Kurono Tokyo is the second venture of renowned Japanese watchmaker Hajime Asaoka, known for his luxurious handcrafted timepieces. To provide a more affordable option, Asaoka designed the Kurono Tokyo watches, which are powered by Miyota movements instead of his custom-made calibers. This initiative aims to make his unique craftsmanship accessible to a broader audience, offering good quality watches at reasonable prices.

Now, the Japanese watchmaker celebrates the brand's fifth anniversary and unveils the “Grand Series 2024 Anniversary Reiwa”, featuring a stunning lapis-green metallic periphery and a deep black lacquer center dial. Following the original Reiwa model released in 2019 to commemorate the beginning of Japan's new imperial era, this is only the second watch in the Grand Series to showcase a two-tone dial.

The watch comes in a 37mm case crafted from high-polished 316L stainless steel, with a thickness of 7mm excluding the box sapphire crystal. The lug-to-lug measurement is 42.75mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. The intricate caseback design is engraved with Sensei's signature and seal.

Inspired by the beauty of Ruri-Numa Lake in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, the lapis-green metallic hue provides a striking contrast. The Anniversary Reiwa model for this year is significantly more challenging to produce due to its higher color contrast. Since manufacturing began in January 2024, only about 5 out of every 100 dials produced have met the stringent quality standards. The dial features a simple time-only display, with each watch hand mirror-polished and hand-bent to match the distinctive curvature of the cylindrical dial.

The watch is powered by the Miyota 90S5 caliber, offering a frequency of 28,800vph (4Hz) and a 40-hour power reserve. It comes with a black calf leather strap with a blue-painted edge and pin buckle, and is priced at USD 1,790, equivalent to AED 6,600.
