Hautlence’s new approach on the wandering hours display with a flying tourbillon
Established in 2004 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, HAUTLENCE stands out with its exceptional time display and its signature retro TV-shaped case. In 2012, HAUTLENCE became part of MELB Holding, an independent family watchmaking group that also owns H. Moser & Cie. In 2022, the brand embarked on a transformative journey, embracing fresh and contemporary designs with a sporty flair, and now confirms its status as a leading independent. Notably, the GPHG Innovation Prize was awarded to Hautlence Sphere Series 1, a timepiece that demonstrated new innovations in various aspects of watchmaking.
In 2018, HAUTLENCE introduced the wandering hours complication to its collections with the HL Vagabondage 01, featuring three stationary hour discs that encircle a revolving central minutes disc crafted from sapphire. Now, the brand introduces the Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 3, enhancing the brand's distinctive take on the wandering hours display, with a flying tourbillon and a dial crafted from sculpted superconductor material by the skilled hands of James Thompson aka "Black Badger".
The timepiece comes in a retro style TV shaped stainless steel case that is coated with a midnight-blue PVD, measuring 50.8mm diameter, 43mm length, and 11.9mm thickness and showcases a blend of brushed and polished finishes. The Hautlence logo is engraved on the crown, adorned with a white rubber ring for both functionality and style. The extra-hard beveled sapphire crystal is treated with anti-reflective coating, ensuring clarity over the dial, while the sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of the intricate movement within.
The dial showcases a copper-niobium superconductor material crafted by the renowned James Thompson, also known as "Black Badger.” It features an etched hexagonal honeycomb structure and ripple patterns on the base, adding a touch of artistic elegance. The wandering hours are presented under three static matte black satellites, with the current hour displayed in the blue window. The rotating minutes are indicated on a sapphire crystal disc adorned with Globolight numerals (a ceramic compound filled with Super-LumiNova), creating a captivating visual display. Positioned at 6 o'clock, the one-minute flying tourbillon enhances both the visual appeal and precision of the timepiece.
Powering the watch is the D30 calibre, which incorporates a self winding mechanism and boasts 72-hour power reserve. The movement features a double hairspring produced in-house by HAUTLENCE’s sister company, Precision Engineering AG and a one-minute flying tourbillon, with a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz). The Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 3 comes with an integrated white rubber strap, paired with a midnight-blue PVD-coated steel buckle, providing both comfort and a seamless aesthetic integration. This timepiece is limited to 28 pieces, with a price of CHF 65,000, which is equivalent to AED 273,000.
