A watch inspired by the snowy green landscapes
Since Grand Seiko separated from Seiko, it has made a significant difference with its release of luxury watches. The brand is renowned for its creative dials inspired by nature, which plays a fundamental role in Japanese culture. This year, Grand Seiko is launching the Hi-Beat 36000 GMT SBGJ277 Sekkei, a new addition to the sport collection featuring a beautiful silver-textured dial that draws inspiration from snow-capped mountain peaks in summer.
The watch comes in a 44.2mm stainless steel case measuring 14.4mm in thickness, featuring both brushed and Zaratsu-polishing. Its dual-curved sapphire crystal enhances durability and readability, while the bidirectional bezel with a sapphire crystal coating offers a 24-hour two-tone scale in green and white. The white area of the bezel and the numerals in the green section are treated with LumiBrite (luminous material by seiko) for enhanced visibility in low light. The watch has a solid steel caseback and is water-resistant up to 200 meters, making it both robust and reliable.
The silver dial reflects the green landscapes of summer, even when snow still lingers on the ground. Known as "Sekkei," these snowy valleys serve as the inspiration for both the dial and the bezel. The large applied indices at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock are polished and feature LumiBrite inserts, which match the luminous treatment on the hour and minute hands. The watch also includes a date window with a white background located at the 4 o'clock position. The central GMT hand has a dark green hue, while the 24-hour track on the inner flange alternates between white and green.
The Grand Seiko SBGJ277 is powered by the Hi-Beat caliber 9S86, which operates at 36,000 vph (5Hz). This high-precision automatic movement boasts an accuracy range of +5 to -3 seconds per day, and offers 55-hours of power reserve. The watch comes with a stainless steel three-link bracelet, and a triple-folding clasp with a push-button release. The watch will be available starting May 1st of this year, priced at USD 6,800, which is equivalent to AED 25,000.
