Gerald Charles Unveils Its Most Complex Timepiece, The Masterlink Perpetual Calendar

Gerald Charles, the independent Swiss watchmaking Maison founded by the great Mr. Gérald Charles Genta, unveils its most complicated watch since its reestablishment less than a decade ago. The Masterlink Perpetual Calendar, developed entirely in-house, marks a new chapter for the young and ambitious Maison as it continues to expand its repertoire of poetic complications.

In keeping with Gerald Charles’s “No Compromise” watchmaking philosophy, established by Mr. Genta more than a quarter of a century ago, the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar introduces an in-house, asymmetrical, automatic perpetual calendar calibre with a three-counter display.

The watch brand Bianchet is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and is renowned for its tonneau-shaped skeleton tourbillon watches that merge contemporary design with traditional Swiss watchmaking. This year, the brand unveils the Hybrid Gold edition of the "Flying Tourbillon Grande Date" and "Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT." These timepieces showcase an innovative combination of high-density carbon, 18k gold, and titanium powder, elevating these watches aesthetically.

The new Hybrid Gold edition features a case with a yellow gold bezel, crown, and case back, all finished with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. The case measures 43mm x 51mm x 14.35mm. The remainder of the case is made from Bianchet’s proprietary carbon composite, Titanium-Dust-High-Density-Carbon, which consists of 500 circa compressed layers of carbon fibers infused with titanium powder between every two layers. Without the strap, the watch weighs 86g.

Both watches feature an openworked dial that is protected by a glare-proof sapphire crystal; on the Flying Tourbillon Grande Date variant, you can spot the skeletonized grade 5 titanium Flying Tourbillon movement, designed, crafted, and assembled in-house. It features a big date complication that showcases the calendar’s openwork mechanism and intricate pieces at the 12 o’clock position, and a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The hands and the indices feature SuperLumiNova blocks and are placed on flang as well. This manual wind movement operates at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers 90-hours of power reserve.

The Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT is powered by the same skeletonized Flying Tourbillon movement, but it replaces the big date with a GMT function, indicated by a rotating Earth dome at 12 o'clock. It also features a crown-function indicator positioned at 8 o'clock.

Both Hybrid Gold models come with two straps, one black and one white, made of vulcanized natural rubber with an 18k yellow gold pin buckle. The Flying Tourbillon Grande Date variant is priced at CHF 85,500, equivalent to AED 355,000, while the Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT variant is priced at CHF 95,500, equivalent to AED 397,000.
