The German Brand Celebrates Its 17th Anniversary with Its First Perpetual Calendar
To mark the seventeenth anniversary of its revival, Moritz Grossmann unveils a new creation that combines engineering precision with refined elegance. It is the brand’s first timepiece equipped with a perpetual calendar mechanism. Since Christine Hutter revived the historic name of Moritz Grossmann in 2008, the brand has become a symbol of traditional mechanics infused with modern touches and the highest standards of craftsmanship.
Based in the German watchmaking town of Glashütte, the manufacture aimed, through its new Perpetual Calendar model, to create a timepiece that transcends time itself and endures through generations. Its mechanism maintains an accurate date display at all times, whether months vary in length or during leap years, making this complication one of the greatest technical challenges in watchmaking.
The Moritz Grossmann PERPETUAL CALENDAR makes its debut in three variants: two models in rose gold and one in platinum. The case measures 41 mm in diameter and 13.9 mm in height, retaining the elegant design language of the renowned Benu line. The rounded case with polished surfaces features sapphire crystals on both sides and the brand’s patented pusher-winding system at 4 o’clock, an ingenious mechanism that prevents dust from entering the case when the crown is pulled. The recessed correctors are subtly integrated into the case and are operated using a special tool supplied with the watch.
The dial of the Perpetual Calendar is offered in three colorways: silver or anthracite for the rose gold versions, and silver with anthracite accents for the platinum edition. The dial features slim, lance-shaped hands crafted from rose gold, while the cup-shaped date indicator and hour appliqués are perfectly color-coordinated. One model features a radiant argenté silver dial, while the other showcases a bold anthracite tone.
Many of the movement’s components are newly developed, including a simplified, optimized stopwork, an integrated manual winder, and an escape wheel bearing built into the barrel bridge. The timepiece also features a sum corrector: if the watch remains unwound for several days, a single press of this pusher updates the date, while the day-of-week, month, and moon-phase indicators automatically follow.
Traditionally, perpetual calendars combine a wealth of information on one dial, arranging it harmoniously is a challenge in itself. The Moritz Grossmann PERPETUAL CALENDAR achieves this with a symmetrical and legible display, where all indicators form a unified, balanced composition.
The date is displayed on a ring encircling the dial, printed with a complete 1–31 scale. A cup-shaped frame highlights the current date, ensuring clarity and distinction from the hour and minute hands. An inner ring with a fine radiant pattern enhances the overall elegance of the dial.
The month and day-of-week are displayed on two subsidiary dials positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock, both finished with refined Azurage decoration, mirroring the small seconds subdial. Each subdial features a small aperture at its center: one serves as a leap-year indicator, while the other reveals a day–night display, simplifying date and time adjustments.
At 12 o’clock, a poetic moon-phase display unfolds—a gleaming mother-of-pearl moon glides across a deep, star-studded sky. Its soft luminescence contrasts beautifully with the goldstone background, shimmering with tiny copper crystals.
Powering the watch is the newly developed Calibre 101.13, a hand-wound movement that sets new standards for the brand. It is a plate-based construction derived from the 100.1 calibre, with an additional module for the perpetual calendar. This intricate system integrates 211 parts within the module and 190 components in the base movement, forming a masterpiece of mechanical complexity.

The large 14.2 mm balance wheel beats at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz), offering a power reserve of 42 hours from a single barrel.
All three models are fitted with a dark brown alligator leather strap secured by a prong buckle in rose gold or platinum. The rose gold models are priced at EUR 98,800 (approximately AED 420,000), while the platinum version retails for EUR 109,200 (approximately AED 464,500).
