The brand’s first watch with carbon case and dial
Mido, a Swiss brand under the Swatch Group, creates modern watches at an affordable price. The Ocean Star collection is one of Mido's most iconic lines, renowned for its high performance and excellent water resistance. We recently highlighted a special edition marking the 80th anniversary of the Ocean Star collection. Since the 1930s, Mido has been a pioneer in producing watertight cases thanks to the cork-crown sealing system, and the Ocean Star 200 series is designed for extreme sports across various environments. Now, Mido released the Ocean Star 200C in carbon fiber for the first time.
The Ocean Star 200C is a modern dive watch, with "200C" indicating its 200-meter water resistance and ceramic bezel. It shares the same specifications as its predecessors, with a 42.5mm diameter and a 12.3mm thickness. The ceramic bezel includes a luminous dot within an inverted orange triangle, along with a 15-minute orange dive scale.
The watch also features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and a black PVD stainless steel caseback. The carbon fiber construction makes it lighter, weighing just 122 grams.
The dial is also made from carbon fiber and features applied indices filled with white Super-LumiNova, as are the tips of the hour and minute hands, along with the lollipop tip of the central seconds hand. The dial also includes an orange lacquered minute hand that complements the orange countdown scale on the bezel, and a day/date window at 3 o'clock.
This is the first Ocean Star 200C to feature a COSC certified movement. It's powered by the Mido Calibre 80, an automatic movement operating at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and providing an 80-hour power reserve. The watch comes with two interchangeable straps, a black rubber strap with diver's extension and a black synthetic fabric strap with orange stitching. The watch is limited to 888 pieces and the price is CHF 2,050 which is equivalent to AED 8,300.
