Introducing Mido Unveils the Ocean Star Worldtimer

The story of Mido begins in 1918, when visionary watchmaker Georges Schaeren founded the brand in Switzerland. Its name, derived from the Spanish phrase "Yo mido" (meaning "I measure"), established a clear purpose from the outset: the precise measurement of time. This founding principle has guided Mido through decades of innovation, particularly in durability and water resistance. Since 1944, the Ocean Star collection has represented the brand’s answer to robust, adventure-ready timepieces.

Now, Mido revisits one of its iconic 1970s designs with the Ocean Star Worldtimer a watch designed for adventure that blends classic styling with rugged construction.

The stainless steel case measures 40.5mm in diameter, 47mm lug-to-lug, and has a thickness of 13.4mm. Water-resistant to 200 meters, the watch features a screw-down crown and solid case back, engraved with the signature Mido Ocean Star starfish emblem. 

A unidirectional bezel with a black aluminum insert is marked with the names of major world cities, highlighting the watch’s world-time functionality.

The dial of the Ocean Star Worldtimer captures the distinctive aesthetic of the 1970s with its chequered design. White Super-LumiNova enhances legibility in low-light conditions, applied to the central grooves of the hour and minute hands, the tip of the seconds hand, and the dot indices. A day-date display, positioned at 3 o’clock, provides essential information for globetrotters. Completing the retro aesthetic is a vintage Mido logo placed just below the 12 o’clock marker, reinforcing the model’s historical inspiration.

Powering the Ocean Star Worldtimer is the Mido Caliber 80, an automatic movement based on the ETA C07.621. It delivers an 80-hour power reserve, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), and is adjusted in three positions for an accuracy ranging from +7 to -20 seconds per day.

One of the standout features of this model is its strap: a black Bund-style leather strap. This two-piece strap, featuring a wide leather pad positioned between the watch and the wrist, has historical roots in military aviation, originally designed to protect pilots' skin from extreme temperatures in unpressurized cockpits.

The Mido Ocean Star Worldtimer will join the brand’s permanent collection, priced at €990, approximately 4,225 AED.
