Introducing Mido Unveils New GMT Italy Limited Edition

Shark-Inspired Dive Watch Pays Tribute to Italian Nautical Heritage

The Ocean Star collection is one of Mido's most iconic collections, originally launched in 1944. Known for its precision and durability, the Ocean Star series has long been a favorite among diving enthusiasts due to its robust design and exceptional water resistance. To celebrate the collection’s 80th anniversary, Mido introduced a special edition, the “Ocean Star GMT,” earlier this year. Now, the brand unveils its latest release, the “Ocean Star GMT Italy Limited Edition,” a new model that honors both Mido's deep connection to the world of diving and Italy's rich maritime heritage. This limited edition is available exclusively in Italian boutiques.

The watch features a 40.5 mm diameter and a 13.4 mm thickness  brushed and polished stainless steel case, offering a balanced combination of size and substance. Its domed sapphire crystal with a glassbox design enhances its visual appeal while ensuring durability. With a water resistance of 200 meters, the case is well-suited for aquatic activities, further protected by a screw-down crown. The bidirectional rotating bezel, accented by a green aluminum ring and silver-colored numerals and markings, includes a white luminescent material dot at 12 o'clock for added functionality. The screw-on case back, showcases a polished starfish relief, honoring the collection’s marine-inspired heritage.

The watch features a black dial with shark teeth applied indexes and a silver-colored minute track, creating a sophisticated and functional layout. Surrounding the dial is a silver ring marked with black numerals and indexes, which indicate a second time zone (GMT) via the red varnished GMT hand. The hour, minute, and GMT hands are all coated with luminescent material for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions. The flat, diamond-cut hour and minute hands, along with the polished applied indexes, provide sharp legibility, while the slim red GMT hand adds a bold contrast. At 3 o'clock, a date window completes the dial’s functionality. Beneath the center of the hands, a small Italian flag emphasizes the watch’s heritage, alongside the Ocean Star name, tying it back to the collection. The dial also features the brand’s name and logo at the top, ensuring a refined and cohesive design.

The watch is powered by the Mido Caliber 80, based on the Powermatic 80 movement, featuring a dual-time zone complication. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz), boasts an 80-hour power reserve, and incorporates an anti-magnetic Nivrachron hairspring.

This timepiece comes with a multi-link stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp, along with an additional NATO-style navy black strap with a green center line. The watch is a limited edition of 250 pieces, and priced at EUR 1,490 approximately equivalent to AED 5,960, and it’s available exclusively in Italian boutiques.
