Introducing Mido Launches The Multifort 8 Two Crowns

Introduced in 1934, the Multifort line was a groundbreaking achievement for Mido, featuring one of the first antimagnetic, self-winding watches with built-in water and shock resistance. It quickly became the brand’s best-selling model from the 1930s to the 1950s. Last year marked the collection’s 90th anniversary, celebrated with the launch of the Multifort TV Big Date and the Multifort Mechanical Limited Edition. This year, the brand is releasing the Multifort 8 Two Crowns, a new sport trio that fuses technology with geometric design.

At first glance, the Multifort 8 Two Crowns exudes the boldness of a larger sports watch. However, its dimensions reveal a well-balanced timepiece, measuring 40mm in diameter with a reasonable 9.5mm thickness. The stainless steel case features a distinct octagonal bezel, combining polished facets with brushed surfaces, reinforcing the watch’s sporty yet refined aesthetic. The watch maintains a solid 100m water resistance, achieved through the presence of two screw-down crowns, one at 4 o’clock for setting the movement and another at 2 o’clock for adjusting the internal rotating bezel. The matte black version features black PVD-coated crowns, while the matte blue variant has blue PVD-coated crowns. The gray variant, however, has a steel crown with no coating.

The dial of the Multifort 8 Two Crowns is available in three colorways: matte black, deep blue, and gray. Each dial features horizontal grooves and a date window at 3 o’clock. The applied indexes and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility in low-light conditions. The inner rotating bezel, which can be used for timing functions, is a nod to classic diver’s watches, though Mido positions this model as a versatile sports watch rather than a dedicated dive watch.

The watch is powered by the Caliber 72, an automatic movement based on the ETA A31.111. This 3.85mm-thick movement operates at a frequency of 25,200 vph (3.5Hz) and delivers a 72-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through the transparent screw-down caseback, offering a glimpse into its mechanism.

Mido offers two strap options for the Multifort 8 Two Crowns. The matte black dial version comes with a black PVD-coated bracelet, while the blue-dial variant is paired with a matching blue rubber strap. The gray model, on the other hand, features a stainless steel bracelet. Both the bracelet and rubber strap include quick-release spring bars, making it easy to switch between them.

The watches are priced at CHF 1,150 (approximately AED 4,800) on the stainless steel bracelet and CHF 1,120 (approximately AED 4,700) on the rubber strap.
