A new and enhanced Ocean Star GMT
Mido was established in 1918 in Biel, Switzerland. The brand offers modern timepieces with an accessible price point. A significant milestone in its history came in 1930 with the pioneering invention of the cork-crown sealing system, later renowned as "Aquadura." This innovation ensures water tightness, making it difficult for water to penetrate the watch. The brand is part of the renowned Swatch Group, and it continues to uphold its legacy with modern designs and a commitment to quality.
The Ocean Star collection stands as an iconic model within Mido's lineup, offering high performance and exceptional water resistance. In 2020, the brand released the Ocean Star GMT, an exceptional watch featuring a dual time zone. Now, Mido celebrates the 80th anniversary of its Ocean Star collection and releases a new special edition Ocean Star GMT with a fresh new look.
When comparing this new special edition to any other Ocean Star GMT, one would notice a change in diameter. Now 40.5mm instead of 44mm, offering a sleeker profile without crown guards. Additionally, the sapphire crystal adopts a box-shaped design rather than a flat one. This updated timepiece not only introduces a new color scheme to the collection but also unveils an enhanced version of it. Other than that, the watch comes in a slightly thicker 13.4mm stainless steel case, featuring a brushed and polished surface. It boasts a bidirectional rotating bezel with a navy blue aluminum ring and a silver-colored 24-hour scale with even numbers.
The navy blue dial undergoes some notable enhancements as well, featuring triangular applied indices and newly shaped hands. The red GMT hand has been subtly slimmed down, and all hands and indices are filled with luminescent material. Additionally, the white internal flange displays odd numbers, and the date window remains set to its usual position at 3 o’clock.

The watch is powered by the Mido Caliber 80, based on the Powermatic 80 movement, featuring a dual-time zone complication. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz), boasts an 80-hour power reserve, and incorporates an anti-magnetic Nivrachron hairspring. This timepiece comes with a multi-link stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp, along with an additional NATO-style navy blue strap with a gray center line. The new Ocean Star GMT is priced at CHF 1,270 which is equivalent to AED 5,300.
