Introducing Marco Lang Unveils the Seven Spheres

A limited edition that transforms traditional Saxon watchmaking into a complex vision

Marco Lang has never struck us as the kind of independent watchmaker interested in complexity for its own sake. His work has long been shaped by a deep respect for traditional horology, especially the Saxon values of precision, restraint, and handcraft. That is precisely what makes the Seven Spheres so compelling. For all its visual drama and mechanical ambition, it does not feel like a deliberate attempt to shock. It feels like the natural result of a watchmaker pushing beyond familiar solutions while remaining firmly anchored in the discipline that defines his work.

Many watches that aim for technical spectacle end up distancing themselves from the very traditions they claim to celebrate. Here, the opposite happens. The new Seven Spheres may be unconventional in construction, but it still feels deeply rooted in the old world of watchmaking, where patience, hand-finishing, and mechanical clarity matter just as much as invention.

The concept itself has been years in the making. At the center of the watch sits the Tourbillon, enclosed within a system of seven nested titanium rings that rotate at different speeds through a series of planetary gears. The arrangement gives the watch a sense of constant motion, yet what stands out even more is the discipline behind it. This is not a movement created for decoration alone. It is a carefully resolved construction, driven by four mainspring barrels working in parallel and shaped by a level of engineering that makes the whole thing feel remarkably coherent despite its complexity.

The case measures 42 mm in diameter and is crafted from 950 platinum. While the case body itself is 10 mm thick, the overall height rises to 18 mm once the domed sapphire crystal is included. That added height is not there for effect alone. It is a direct consequence of the architecture within, giving the ring system the vertical room it requires while preserving the elegance of the case itself. From the outside, the watch remains surprisingly classical in character, with a traditional round profile, sapphire crystals front and back, and the option of ornamental hand engraving for those who want an added touch of artisanal decoration. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.

There is no conventional dial in the usual sense. Instead, time is read from a solid silver chapter ring carrying red minute numerals, framed by two hand-guilloché Breguet-style borders. The hour and minute hands, made of heat-blued steel, appear to float above the movement, reinforcing the feeling that the display has been carefully arranged around the watch’s central construction rather than simply laid over it. It is an unusual approach, but one that suits the watch well. Legibility is still present, though the real experience lies in the interplay of depth, motion, and form.

Powering the watch is the manually wound calibre ML-02/7SP. The movement measures 35.7 mm across and 5.35 mm in height before accounting for the ring system. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and delivers a power reserve of 55 hours. Energy is supplied by four barrels arranged in parallel, feeding the mechanism through a central ball-bearing system that completes one rotation every 12 hours. From there, the power flows through the seven titanium rings, each offset by 30 degrees and synchronized through planetary gearing. That description alone hints at the complexity involved, but what matters more is the clarity of the result. For a construction this unusual, the watch feels remarkably resolved, as though every technical challenge has been absorbed into a unified whole.

The watch is paired with an 18 mm alligator leather strap, lined with shark leather on the inside to improve water resistance, and secured by a 950 platinum pin buckle. It is limited to 18 pieces and priced at EUR 250,000, approximately AED 1,050,000.
