A silicon wafer dial with electronic circuits
Louis Moinet is a renowned independent Swiss watch brand celebrated for its luxurious timepieces blending artistry and innovative technology. Their creations pay tribute to the pioneering work of Louis Moinet, a master watchmaker, artist, and astronomer who invented the first chronograph in the world. In the past year, we witnessed some noteworthy launches from the brand, including the Louis Moinet Cosmopolis, a timepiece that secured its position in the Guinness World Records for having "the most meteorite inserts in a watch", and the release of the Jules Verne Tourbillon "To the Moon", the first addition to the Jules Verne Tourbillon trilogy.
Louis Moinet unveils its inaugural timepiece for this year, a unique piece named “Astronef Techno”. This watch combines a silicon wafer dial etched with microelectronic circuits with a double satellite tourbillon that rotates around the dial. It features a 41.6 mm sapphire crystal band, and top in a 43.5 mm grade-5 titanium frame, with openworked lugs.
As we said, The Astronef Techno boasts two satellite tourbillons orbiting the open-worked dial. Encased within individual cages, each rotates at a distinct speed, one completes a rotation in ten minutes, while the other does so in five. Every three minutes and twenty seconds, the two tourbillons align precisely, requiring synchronization and accuracy. Despite their intricate and precise design, these tourbillons weigh just 0.25 grams each. The dial also features yellow hands with luminescent material that aid readability in low-light conditions.
The transparent case back unveils the LM 105 caliber and two barrel springs, one dedicated to each tourbillon, providing a 48-hour power reserve and operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz). The crown has undergone a complete redesign, eliminating the need for pulling. Instead, a selector integrated into the case back controls two essential functions: time-setting and winding.
