A Timepiece Honoring the Art of Hand Engraving, Signed by Ukrainian Artist Maksym Shavlak
Since 2021, Louis Erard has been redefining the boundaries of Métiers d’Art, from Grand Feu enamel and guilloché to wood marquetry, and soon, gold wire inlay. Now, Gravée Main opens a new chapter, paying tribute to one of the oldest crafts in watchmaking hand engraving.
Gravée Main represents a new milestone in Louis Erard’s Métiers d’Art series. This limited edition of 99 unique timepieces places hand engraving at center stage, with every metal element entirely engraved and finished by hand, a meticulous process that requires more than 50 hours of work.
Hand engraving offers what no machine can replicate: true individuality. Each cut and curve is executed by hand, ensuring that no two pieces are alike. Just one artisan, one piece of steel, artisanship on the wrist. Tradition with bite. Craft with character.
Crafted from polished stainless steel, the watch is engraved from case to bezel, and from lugs and crown to buckle. Each Gravée Main is engraved by hand in Ukraine by Maksym Shavlak, a watchmaker and artist renowned for transforming antique timepieces into modern hybrids.
The case measures 42 mm in diameter and 12.25 mm in thickness, maintaining Louis Erard’s signature three-piece construction. It features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and a transparent caseback revealing the movement. Water resistance is rated to 50 meters.
A newly designed, hand-engraved fluted crown replaces the brand’s signature LE crown for this edition.
The black lacquer dial features a polished finish with glossy anthracite and black transfers, paired with grey Roman numerals and a matching minute track.
Pear-shaped, rhodium-plated hands offer a modern reinterpretation of classic watch design. A small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock mirrors the aesthetic language of the main dial.
Powering the watch is the Sellita SW266-1 caliber, an automatic movement measuring 25.60 mm in diameter and 5.60 mm in height. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and delivers a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is elegantly decorated and fitted with a specially designed openworked oscillating weight.
The Gravée Main is paired with a black grained calf leather strap featuring tone-on-tone stitching and a matching black calf leather lining. The polished stainless steel pin buckle is also hand-engraved, and the strap is fitted with quick-release bars for easy changes.
The Louis Erard Gravée Main is limited to just 99 pieces and is priced at CHF 5,450, equivalent to AED 24,800.
