A Chinese New Year Special in Collaboration with the Peon Art Museum
To mark the Year of the Horse, Longines unveils a special edition of its Master Collection, paying tribute both to the Lunar New Year and to the brand’s long-standing connection with the equestrian world. Created in collaboration with the Peon Art Museum in China, this limited edition features a meticulously engraved motif inspired by Galloping Horse, a celebrated painting by Peon Xu, reproduced on the gilt rotor of the movement. As the rotor turns with each movement of the wrist, the horse appears to surge forward, symbolizing momentum, renewal, freedom, and courage. Distinguished by a striking red gradient dial, the Longines Master Collection Year of the Horse is limited to 2,026 pieces worldwide.
This marks the third Lunar New Year timepiece by Longines. The brand first celebrated the occasion two years ago with the Heritage Flagship Moonphase Year of the Dragon, followed last year by the Conquest Heritage Year of the Snake. What unites these special editions is the use of a red gradient dial, a colour deeply rooted in Chinese culture, symbolizing prosperity, joy, and new beginnings.
Peon Xu, one of China’s most influential modern painters, redefined traditional art by merging Western techniques with Chinese realism. His iconic depictions of galloping horses combine anatomical precision with the expressive vitality of Chinese ink painting. For this edition, Longines partnered with the Peon Art Museum to translate the energy and grace of Galloping Horse into horological form. Curated by Qingping Xu, the artist’s son and a respected calligrapher, the project continues the family’s enduring artistic legacy.
The horse also reflects Longines’ deep-rooted ties to the equestrian world. Since the 19th century, the brand has shared values of elegance, tradition, and performance with this universe, serving as the official timekeeper for some of the world’s most prestigious equestrian competitions. This special edition thus unites the symbolic strength of the horse with Longines’ centuries-old watchmaking expertise.
Housed in a 42 mm stainless steel case with a combination of brushed and polished finishes, the watch is topped by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The case measures 11.20 mm in thickness and offers water resistance to 50 metres. A transparent sapphire case back reveals the movement and bears a special engraving reading: “YEAR OF THE HORSE – LIMITED EDITION – ONE OF 2026.”
The red sunray-brushed dial features a subtle gradient effect, evoking the poetic glow of sunrise—an auspicious symbol of renewal. Gilt hands and applied indexes lend refinement, while a moonphase display at 6 o’clock is elegantly integrated with a date indication.
Powering the watch is the exclusive Longines calibre L899.5, a self-winding movement equipped with a silicon balance spring. Beating at 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz), it delivers a power reserve of up to 72 hours and is fitted with a yellow gold-coloured oscillating weight engraved with the horse motif.
The Longines Master Collection Year of the Horse is completed by a black leather strap secured by a stainless steel folding clasp. Limited to 2,026 pieces, it is priced at CHF 2,650, approximately AED 12,230.
