A Refined Triple Calendar Honoring the 60th Anniversary of Founder Hajime Asaoka
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Japanese independent watchmaker Hajime Asaoka, the founder of Kurono Tokyo, the more accessible line created by the celebrated artisan.
The brand is commemorating this milestone as its Diamond Jubilee, unveiling a series of special edition timepieces that pay tribute to Asaoka’s signature design language. Following the highly elegant 2025 Jubilee Sensu EOL, Kurono Tokyo concludes the celebrations with a refined and captivating new model, the Grand Jubilee Calendar in a warm salmon tone.
This new edition marks a reinterpretation for Asaoka’s 60th Diamond Jubilee. The concept has been refined into a dressier, more elegant timepiece, sleeker in form and richer in detail. Whereas the 2022 model featured a coin-edge bezel, the Grand Jubilee Calendar adopts a more restrained aesthetic, with a smooth, polished, concave bezel that subtly evokes Calatrava-inspired sophistication.

The watch features a 38mm stainless steel case with a slim profile of 11.5mm (or 10mm without the box-shaped sapphire crystal). The case is entirely polished and fitted with correctors for the calendar indications on its flanks. On the reverse, the solid steel caseback is screwed down and decorated with a solid gold medallion engraved with Hajime Asaoka’s personal signature. The crown is adorned with a black onyx cabochon — a discreet but elegant touch.
The dial stands out in a matte salmon tone, inspired by autumn hues. It features vertical strakes, a hallmark design element that Asaoka has explored since his very first tourbillon, expressed here through subtle guilloché work. The triple calendar layout includes a date window at 6 o’clock, and two sunken sub-dials displaying the month at 3 o’clock and day at 9 o’clock.
All the indications are printed in black, with blackened hands for enhanced legibility and contrast, adding a refined visual harmony to the design.
Inside beats the reliable Miyota Calibre 9122, an automatic movement measuring 30.2mm in diameter and 5.52mm in height. It operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offers a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. According to Miyota, the movement’s accuracy ranges between –10 and +30 seconds per day. Completing the timepiece is a black calfskin leather strap secured with a classic steel pin buckle.
The 2025 Kurono Grand Jubilee Calendar will be produced in limited numbers and will not be repeated. It will be available for online orders starting Friday, October 17th at 11:00 PM Japan Time, exclusively on the brand’s official website, with a one-watch-per-customer purchase limit.
The watch is priced at USD 2,380 (approximately AED 8,750), excluding taxes.
