Marking the 10th anniversary of the iconic Astronomia collection
Jacob & Co. built its fame on audacious designs and groundbreaking mechanical complications. Over the past decade, the iconic Astronomia collection has stood as a testament to the brand's commitment to challenging traditional watchmaking norms. This year, Jacob & Co. is celebrating the 10th anniversary of this legendary collection by unveiling the Astronomia Revolution Four-Axis Tourbillon, a watch that once again breaks new ground.
Encased in 18K rose gold, the Astronomia Revolution boasts a commanding 47mm diameter with an impressive 27mm thickness. The case features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, while the caseback remains closed.
The dial is nothing short of extraordinary. It features a mirror-polished, gold-plated plate adorned with a geometric mosaic design meticulously crafted to catch and reflect light. This skeletonized display places the high-speed four-axis tourbillon center stage, alongside a red composite hour and minute subdial.
At the heart of this watch is the caliber JCAM54, a hand-wound movement that defies convention with its four-axis flying tourbillon. The original Astronomia Tourbillon debuted with a full movement rotation of 20 minutes, later accelerating to 10 minutes and eventually achieving an impressive 60-second rotation in 2023 with the Astronomia Revolution for Only Watch. Each axis rotates at a different speed, 60 seconds, 18 seconds, 15 seconds, with the entire movement completing a full rotation in just 60 seconds. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz), and offers 36 hours of power reserve.
The high rotation speeds demand significant energy, and to safeguard the escapement from this power surge, Jacob & Co., in collaboration with Concepto Watch Factory, developed a patented constant force device. This mechanism activates every 1/6th of a second, synchronizing with the balance wheel's frequency and serving as a buffer between the barrel's energy and the tourbillon.
The watch is paired with a red alligator leather strap and is limited to just 18 pieces, priced at $700,000, approximately AED 2,600,000.
