The brand's iconic Gérald Genta design gets a fully luxurious case
The Ingenieur collection was first introduced in the 1950s, and since then, it has undergone several reimaginings. One of its most iconic pieces is the Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832, designed by Gérald Genta in the 1970s. In 2023, IWC revisited the Ingenieur Automatic 40, with a range of releases in steel and titanium, and last year, it was introduced with a new blue dial. For Watches and Wonders 2025, the brand is releasing a new variant in 18K 5N gold.
The Ingenieur Automatic 40 features a sleek 40mm case and a modest 10.4mm thickness, ensuring a comfortable fit on the wrist. The entire case is crafted from 18K 5N gold, with a combination of brushed and polished finishes. The bezel is decorated with five screws, aligning seamlessly with the angular case design. A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the intricate movement and ensures 100m of water resistance.
The black dial features a “Grid” pattern, with small lines and squares that catch the light beautifully. Gold-plated, hand-applied indices and hands filled with Super-LumiNova ensure legibility in any lighting, while a date window is positioned at the 3 o’clock position.
Powered by the IWC-manufactured calibre 32111, this automatic movement offers a remarkable 120-hour power reserve (five days) and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz). The watch is paired with an integrated 18K 5N gold bracelet, featuring a butterfly folding clasp that ensures both a secure and comfortable fit. This model is part of the permanent collection, and the price is available upon request.
