Two Special Edition of The Big Pilot’s Watch in Armor Gold & Ceramic Matrix
International Watch Company, commonly known as IWC Schaffhausen, is a renowned Swiss luxury watch manufacturer based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Founded in 1868, with more than 150 years of crafting high-quality timepieces.
Since 2004, The brand has established several collaborations with Mercedes-Benz and its performance-oriented subsidiary, Mercedes-AMG, such as the “Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Edition Mercedes-AMG Petro”, the “Mercedes-AMG One Watch from IWC Watches”, and the “Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS”, these collaborations have not only produced exceptional timepieces but also showcased the blend of precision engineering and exquisite design.
This year, IWC took a leap from the race track, into off-road robustness, with characteristics and popularity of the G-Class from Mercedes-Benz and the Big Pilot’s Watch from IWC Schaffhausen that goes back to 1940. The brand launches two special Big Pilot’s Watch editions to celebrate the modern design of the G-Class.
Inspired by the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 “Grand Edition,” the first timepiece showcases an 18K Armor Gold case, ring, and case back, which is a new type of gold alloy, known for its durability and resistance to wear, making it more robust than conventional than 5N gold. The sand-blasted case boasts dimensions of 46.2 mm in diameter and 14.4 mm in height.
On the other hand, the second timepiece introduces for the first time a ceramic matrix case characterized by its exceptional strength, lightweight properties, and resistance to extreme temperatures. The case is slightly larger comparing it with the first variant, measuring 46.5 mm in diameter and 14.6 mm in height. This watch features a ceratanium case back ring and crown, combining the lightness and unbreakable characteristics of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic, complemented by a sapphire glass secured against displacement by drops in air pressure for both variants.
Both watches feature matching black dials, inspired by the air intakes of Mercedes-AMG. Additionally, the dial includes a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, and a date window positioned at 6 o'clock, with black hands treated with various Super-LumiNova coatings, beige-gold for the Armor Gold version or light-gray for the ceramic matrix version. Unlike the traditional Big Pilot’s Watch, which typically has printed numerals and indices, these special editions display applied markers coated in black PVD.

The watches are powered by the In-house automatic Caliber IWC 52010, with a bidirectional Pellaton pawl-winding system, that operates at 28,800 vph (4Hz), and holds 168 hours of power reserve. This movement is covered by a see-through case back showing the Mercedes star. Notably, both watches incorporate the iconic iron inner case for protection against magnetic forces.
The IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot G63 comes with a black rubber strap with microfiber inlay, and folding clasp that matches the case’s material. The Armor gold variant comes with a price of CHF 35,000,which is equivalent to AED 143,000, while the ceramic matrix variant is priced at CHF 44'000, equivalent to AED 180,000.
