Introducing Isotope Unlives the Moonshot Chronograph Thunderclap

A limited edition chronograph introduces the brand’s first telemeter scale

Independent British watchmaker Isotope is known for blending unconventional design ideas with dependable mechanical foundations. Rather than following traditional aesthetic codes, Isotope often experiments with bold designs and unusual dial layouts.

Among the brand’s most recognizable releases is the Moonshot chronograph, a platform that balances technical reliability with a distinctive design language. Over time, it has become a natural canvas for creative reinterpretation while retaining the core structure that defines the collection. In its latest release, the brand introduces the Moonshot Chronograph Thunderclap, a limited edition that brings a new visual identity while also marking the first appearance of a telemeter scale in an Isotope chronograph.

Developed in collaboration with Canadian designer Matt Smith-Johnson, known online as Teenage Grandpa, the watch reflects his bold graphic approach. The design introduces a storm-inspired palette built around deep grey tones and striking purple accents, giving the chronograph a strong presence that reflects the energy suggested by its name.

The case measures 41 mm in diameter and 15 mm in thickness, and it is crafted from sandblasted Grade 5 titanium. The matte treatment emphasizes the raw texture of the metal and allows the color accents on the dial and pushers to stand out more clearly. The case also features a sapphire crystal caseback that reveals the movement inside, while the construction ensures water resistance rated to 100 meters.

The dial is finished in grey with an embossed dimple texture. Purple Moondisc sub-dials introduce a vivid contrast against the darker background, and the Lacrima-shaped hands are treated with luminous material for improved legibility. Applied indices frame the display, and the chronograph layout places the small seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. Surrounding the dial is the telemeter scale, a feature making its debut in the Moonshot line. Historically, this scale was used to estimate the distance of events such as lightning strikes by measuring the interval between seeing the flash and hearing the thunder.

Powering the watch is an automatic chronograph movement offered in two configurations. Buyers can choose between the ETA Valjoux 7753 or the Swiss Landeron 73, both operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and providing a power reserve of 44 hours.

The watch can be fitted with either a purple FKM rubber strap or a sandblasted Grade 5 titanium bracelet. It is produced as a limited edition of 30 pieces, with a price set at £2,400 (approximately AED 11,800) on the rubber strap and £2,720 (approximately AED 13,300) when supplied with the titanium bracelet.
