Introducing Ikepod Adds 12 Unique Pieces to the Horopod Collection

In 1994, Oliver Ike and designer Marc Newson joined forces to establish Ikepod, an independent watch brand with a distinct flair for contemporary design. Characterized by its flying saucer-shaped cases and oversized dimensions, Ikepod set a new aesthetic standard, paving the way for the extra-large watch trend of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Despite its initial success, the brand faced financial difficulties. In 2003, new investors stepped in to revive Ikepod, but by 2012, Newson and Ike had parted ways. The good news for Ikepod enthusiasts came in 2018 when the brand made a comeback under the leadership of Christian-Louis Col, with Emmanuel Gueit contributing to the design. Adopting a strategy that combined striking design with affordability, Ikepod continued crafting its timepieces in Switzerland while shifting assembly to Hong Kong.

Last year, the brand revisited a 212 design, the Gen2 Horizon model in titanium, unveiling the new Horopod collection. This latest series features a Swiss-made movement, marking a shift from the Japanese calibers previously used.

Now, Ikepod presents 12 unique timepieces within the Horopod collection, created in collaboration with American artist Tom Christopher. Each of the 12 dials has been meticulously hand-painted by Studio Tom Christopher, showcasing miniature renditions of the artist’s iconic works. 

While this marks the first time an Ikepod dial features his paintings, it is not the first collaboration between the artist and the brand, as they have worked together on previous editions.

Protected by a sapphire crystal, the dial is complemented by a caseback featuring an off-centered small round porthole, offering a glimpse of the movement within. The screw-down crown, with recessed grooves, ensures water resistance up to 50 meters.

These exclusive timepieces are powered by a New Old Stock ETA 2824 automatic movement, discovered in the brand’s inventory when Christian-Louis Col acquired Ikepod’s assets. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (vph), the movement delivers a power reserve of 38 hours.

Each of the 12 unique Ikepod Horopod watches is presented on a titanium bracelet and is also accompanied by a black rubber strap. Priced at CHF 5,990 approximately AED 24,950.
