A Carbon Fiber Breakthrough Strengthening Swiss Watchmaking’s Sustainable Vision
ID Genève, the rising Swiss watchmaker, presented its SDG Limited Edition timepiece during Climate Week in New York, marking the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The watch is crafted from regenerative carbon developed by Swiss HealTech innovator CompPair, underscoring the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
The design of the new Circular C SDG Limited Edition draws playful yet thoughtful inspiration from the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015, which include affordable and clean energy, responsible consumption and production, and sustainable cities and communities. While the symbolism is strong, the true highlight lies in the material: ID Genève becomes the first watch brand to align directly with the United Nations, positioning Swiss luxury as an official partner in the global sustainability agenda.
The SDG Limited Edition is based on the brand’s Circular C collection—“C” standing for carbon, though not of the conventional kind. Its 41mm case is made entirely of recycled stainless steel with a bio-based black PVD coating, complemented by a bezel and case bumpers fashioned from regenerative carbon fiber. Thanks to CompPair’s HealTech innovation, imperfections in the carbon elements can self-heal when heated between 100 and 150 degrees Celsius, a material advancement already contributing to more sustainable repairs in sectors such as aerospace and transportation.
The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement, though much of its surface is covered by a vivid motif of the 17 SDG colors. The engraving also indicates the watch’s water resistance of 50 meters and its extremely limited production of just 17 pieces.
Like the case bumpers, the dial is crafted from carbon fiber, featuring an hour and minute track made of recycled Super-LumiNova blocks in selected SDG colors. Applied hour markers with a molecular gradient effect and steel hands filled with recycled Super-LumiNova add further depth. Protecting the dial is a flat crystal composed of 70% recycled sapphire with an antireflective coating. A discreet date window sits at 3 o’clock.
Inside beats the ETA 2892, a renowned automatic caliber sourced from historical stock and meticulously overhauled to meet modern precision standards. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement delivers a power reserve of 42 hours and dependable accuracy.

The ID Genève SDG Limited Edition is priced at USD 10,500 (approximately AED 38,550, excluding taxes). In keeping with its mission-driven ethos, each of the 17 pieces will only be allocated to collectors who demonstrate a proven commitment to one or more of the UN goals. Additionally, 10% of all sales will be donated directly to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals initiative.
