A Limited Edition Inspired by Mexican Culture, Unveiled at SIAR Exhibition
Hublot celebrated the 20th anniversary of its iconic Big Bang at the SIAR (Salón Internacional Alta Relojería) in Mexico City by unveiling a highly exclusive limited edition: the Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black, limited to just 100 pieces. For the first time, this model features a sapphire dial adorned with a striking skull motif.
To mark the occasion, Hublot hosted an exclusive event in Mexico City, bringing together prominent figures from the worlds of watchmaking, fashion, sport, and culture. The Unico movement, a symbol of Hublot’s technical mastery, represents the culmination of two decades of innovation, during which the brand evolved into a fully integrated manufacture capable of giving life to its boundless creativity.
The Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black takes Hublot’s deep connection with Mexico to new heights. This 42 mm timepiece marks the first appearance of an All Black Big Bang Unico with a fully sapphire dial featuring a stylized skull at its center.
As expected from Hublot, the watch showcases a sophisticated fusion of materials engineered for durability and everyday wear. The screws and pushers are crafted from titanium, the case back is made of ceramic, and the crown is fashioned from black PVD titanium overmolded with rubber.
The sapphire dial creates a fascinating interplay of light and shadow between the case and the movement. The skull motif overlays the bridges and gears of the Unico calibre, drawing the eye first to the skull, both playful and macabre, and then into the intricate three-dimensional depth of the movement. Beneath it, the Unico’s mechanical heart beats visibly.
At 9 o’clock, the skull’s left eye animates the small seconds display, constantly rotating. Staying true to the Big Bang DNA, the watch features two large luminous black-coated hands for the hours and minutes, a 60-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and a skeletonized date display.
Powering the watch is the HUB1280 caliber, the second generation of the Unico chronograph flyback movement. Visible through the captivating transparent case back, this flyback chronograph exemplifies Hublot’s fusion of technical innovation and aesthetic refinement. The movement's skeletonized tungsten oscillating weight, along with its sleek grey-toned components, enhances the overall visual appeal. Comprising 354 components and 43 jewels, the HUB1280 operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
Completing the watch is a unique strap exclusive to this edition, combining black calfskin and rubber embossed with a skull motif. An additional textured black rubber strap is also included, secured with a black ceramic and titanium folding clasp.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black is limited to 100 pieces and priced at CHF 22,900, approximately AED 106,000.
