A pocket watch with a champlevé enamel cover created by Dutch illustrator Viktor Hachmang
The iconic French brand Hermès has a storied history that dates back to 1837. Originally renowned for its craftsmanship in creating harnesses and saddles for horses, Hermès has grown into a symbol of elegance and quality across a diverse range of luxury products. The brand’s foray into watchmaking began in 1912, reflecting its creative passion and dedication to expanding offerings. Hermès watches are known for their unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design, often incorporating elements that pay homage to the brand’s origins.
Following the launch of the Slim d'Hermès Masan Masan pocket watch last year, Hermès is now releases the slim d'Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider pocket watch that's inspired by a scarf with a picture of a rider revving up a motorbike created by Dutch illustrator artist Viktor Hachmangwith.
The pocket watch features an 18k white gold case with a 45mm diameter and an 11.6mm thickness, showcasing a combination of brushed and polished finishes. The cover is adorned with champlevé enamel, depicting a red, white, and blue picture of a biker wearing an scarf, which complements his riding gear and helmet. This technique entails carving minute cells into the metal and filling them with colored glass powders blended with natural oils. These are then fired multiple times in a kiln at temperatures exceeding 800°C to set the pigments permanently. The cover also includes gray touches on the motorbike and the stone façade in the background, representing Hermès’ flagship boutique in Paris.
Opening the watch's cover reveals a white enamel dial with hand-painted red numerals and minute track, giving this pocket watch a unique style. The watch is powered by the ultra-thin automatic caliber H1950, designed and created by the Swiss Manufacture Vaucher. This movement has a thickness of just 2.6mm and operates via a micro-rotor. It functions at 21,600vph (3Hz) and provides a 42-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a red alligator cord and is limited to 3 pieces. The price is available upon request.
