Introducing Breguet Refreshes the Tradition Collection with a Modern Touch

A unique pocket watch inspired by Thai traditional art
Pocket watches are classic instruments that were widely used before wristwatches become popular. Nowadays pocket watches are not just timekeeping devices, they are a testament to craftsmanship, and historical elegance. They remain highly collectible and treasured items, often representing a sense of nostalgia for a time when style and sophistication were paramount.

Hermès has introduced the "Slim d'Hermès Masan Masan" pocket watch, a unique timepiece that skillfully combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary horology. Designed in 2015 by Philippe Delhotal, this one-of-a-kind watch pays homage to Hermès' enduring passion for equestrian themes by seamlessly merging horsehair marquetry with intricate engraving.

The standout feature of this watch is its incorporation of the traditional Thai craft known as the Masan & Masan silk scarf pattern, originally designed by Terawat Teankaprasith. In Thai culture, "masan" alludes to the ancient art of horsehair weaving, translating to "braided horse." This technique entails sun-drying water hyacinth and hand-weaving it to produce a diverse array of designs.

The pocket watch features a 45 mm polished and brushed case with a thickness of 11.6mm and an engraved silhouette of horses on the interior side of the hinged cover. Its crown, positioned at 12 o'clock, is shielded by prominent angular lugs. Beneath the cover lies a handcrafted gray dial, also fashioned using horsehair marquetry arranged diagonally. It is adorned with classic hour and minute hands, while Arabic numerals are elegantly printed on the sapphire glass that protects the dial.

Nestled inside the case is the self-winding caliber H1950, crafted by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier in Switzerland. It operates at 21,600 VPH and provides 42 hours of power reserve. This one-of-a-kind pocket watch is complemented by a black Havana alligator leather cord, with a price of CHF 158,000, which is equivalent to AED 643,000.
