A watch inspired by the 1940s 5A5 radio broadcast receiver
Hautlence is a distinguished watch brand known for its exceptional time display and its iconic retro TV-shaped case. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Hautlence unveiled the HLXX at Watches and Wonders 2024. However, the brand didn't stop there; as it is introducing the Retrovision 47, a limited edition timepiece inspired by the hypothetical scenario of the brand being established in 1940 instead of 2004. The watch’s design draws inspiration from the 1940s Model 5A5 radio broadcast receiver, merging vintage aesthetics with contemporary watchmaking craftsmanship to create a unique styled timepiece.
The watch comes in a 39.2 x 44.4 x 12.1 mm grade 5 titanium case painted in marbled green and white, mimicking the radio's Bakelite material (molded plastic). The lugs and the speaker grill frame that covers the double hairspring flying tourbillon are crafted from grade 23 titanium.
The dial is protected by a rectangular sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, while the caseback also features sapphire crystal, providing a clear view of the intricate mechanics within.
On the left side of the watch face, you can spot the speaker grill frame, which features radio waves in gray Super-LumiNova on a black background. On the right side lies the dial, made of a 2N gold-plated brass disk, with red hands and vertical satin finishing. The minute numerals are highlighted in black Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility in low light conditions. At the center of the dial, there is an embossed pattern of the HAUTLENCE Möbius emblem, adding a distinctive touch to the design.
The watch is powered by D20 caliber, an automatic movement, that offers 72 hours of power reserve, and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz). The Retrovision 47 comes with a red calfskin leather strap with a steel buckle, it is limited to 10 pieces and priced at CHF 60,000, equivalent to AED 245,500.
