Introducing Breguet Refreshes the Tradition Collection with a Modern Touch

A new piece with a synthetic aventurine dial
Founded in 2008 by brothers Tim and Bart Grönefeld, the Dutch independent brand Grönefeld has built a reputation for masterful craftsmanship and exceptional hand-finishing. Known as "The Horological Brothers," the duo seamlessly blends traditional techniques with innovative designs, creating timepieces that meet the highest standards of collectors. Last year, we covered The First Affordable Watch from the Dutch Brand, and now, Grönefeld embarks on a new journey with its first-ever ladies’ watch: the 1944 Tanfana.
The 1944 Tanfana pays tribute to the Grönefeld family’s heritage and Germanic mythology. The name “Tanfana” is inspired by a goddess believed to have been worshipped near Oldenzaal, the brothers' hometown, while “1944” honors their mother, Netty, who was born that year.

Crafted from Red Gold Au750 5N, the case measures 32mm in diameter and 5.5mm in thickness. The bezel, case, lugs and pin buckle are adorned with 233 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 2.73 carats, while the crown features a striking aventurine cabochon. A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating protects the dial, and a sapphire crystal caseback, offers an unobstructed view of the movement within.
The dial is made from blue synthetic aventurine, evoking a starlit night sky. Overlaying this shimmering surface is the Flower of Life, a geometric motif deeply tied to sacred geometry. The extended Lancette hands contrast elegantly against the aventurine backdrop, complemented by trapezoidal applied indices in matching red gold. Instead of a traditional seconds hand, Grönefeld introduces an animated floral motif at 6 o’clock. As time passes, this intricate design rotates, creating a mesmerizing moiré effect reminiscent of a blooming flower.
Powering the 1944 Tanfana is the Grönefeld Calibre G-06, an automatic movement that boasts a 56-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz). The rotor, crafted from 22-karat red gold, is engraved with The Tree of Life in white gold. This movement upholds Grönefeld’s reputation for peerless finishing. The stainless steel bridges, reminiscent of Dutch bell gables, feature micro-blasted centers, engravings, and polished bevels.

Grönefeld offers a wide selection of leather straps in various colors. The 19mm strap tapers to 18mm at the red gold buckle, which is set with diamonds. The 1944 Tanfana is priced at €118,000, approximately AED 454,750.
