Black and White Ceramic Models Close the Chapter on One of the Brand’s Most Iconic Timepieces
Greubel Forsey unveils the final two editions of the Balancier Convexe S²: one in black ceramic with 5N red gold accents, the other in white ceramic, marking the conclusion of a calibre developed and refined over the past five years. Each edition is limited to just 11 timepieces, making them the most exclusive executions of the series.
With their release, the calibre enters its final phase: production will cease permanently in 2026, bringing this chapter of Greubel Forsey’s mechanical development to a close.
From its inception, the Balancier Convexe S² was conceived as a fully integrated watch, in which case geometry and movement architecture evolve in unison. Its conclusion also reflects Greubel Forsey’s broader transition toward a new generation of watches and mechanical innovation, following the farewell to the Balancier Contemporain and now extending to the Balancier Convexe S².
The brand presents two final executions: one in black ceramic paired with red gold accents, and the other in white ceramic, representing the ultimate expressions of the calibre before its discontinuation.
As with Greubel Forsey’s signature sports case, the convex architecture enhances wearability, particularly when paired with the integrated rubber strap, despite dimensions that may appear imposing at first glance. The case measures 44 mm at the bezel, tapering to 41.5 mm across the caseband, with a height of 12.85 mm for the white ceramic version and 13.25 mm for the black ceramic with red gold. Total height, including the crystals, reaches approximately 14.8 mm.
The slight variation in thickness between the two versions is due to their differing constructions: the black ceramic model features a red gold bezel and caseback, while the white ceramic version is fully executed in ceramic for both elements.
As with most Greubel Forsey creations, the dial is essentially an extension of the movement, organised across multiple levels to showcase its mechanical complexity. The hour ring is positioned high beneath the sapphire crystal, while the lower section opens to reveal the large inclined balance wheel.
Polished steel hands, filled with Super-LumiNova, are mounted on a suspended, arch-shaped bridge, a signature element of the S² design. The inclined balance wheel dominates the lower half of the display, accompanied by a small seconds subdial in gold positioned nearby. A power reserve indicator is seamlessly integrated into the movement’s layered architecture, indicated by a red triangular hand.
Powering the watch is the hand-wound Greubel Forsey calibre GF09XV, composed of 301 components, including a 68-part escapement platform built around the brand’s signature 30° inclined balance system. This architecture is designed to enhance chronometric stability by reducing positional errors.
The in-house variable-inertia balance wheel, measuring 12.6 mm in diameter and fitted with six gold mean-time screws, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Energy is delivered via two fast-rotating coaxial barrels arranged in series, each completing a full rotation every 3.2 hours, ensuring constant torque and providing a 72-hour power reserve.

While both editions share the same movement, their finishing differs to complement the case design. The black ceramic version features recessed, frosted bridges coated in black, contrasted by polished titanium edges. The white ceramic model, by contrast, adopts a more traditional aesthetic, with frosted bridges and polished borders in natural titanium, allowing the granular texture of the finishing to stand out more prominently.
Both final editions are delivered on a hand-sewn textured rubber strap black or white depending on the model and secured by a folding clasp in titanium or titanium with 5N red gold. A three-row titanium bracelet with integrated fine adjustment is also available upon request.
These two ceramic models mark the final production run of the Balancier Convexe S² and are limited to just 11 pieces per edition. The price is set at CHF 295,000 (approximately AED 1,378,000).
