Celebrating Two Years in the Asia Pacific
Grand Seiko has long been celebrated for its unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and precision, with a distinct focus on honoring the natural beauty of Japan. The brand has become synonymous with watches that pay homage to the country’s iconic landscapes, drawing inspiration from its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery. Known for producing movements entirely in-house, Grand Seiko's commitment to innovation and quality is evident in every timepiece it creates. Over the years, the brand has released several remarkable watches, including the "Atera Valley" and the "Ice Fall", both of which were designed as tributes to Japan's awe-inspiring natural landmarks. Today, we are excited to present Grand Seiko’s latest release, the SBGJ285 watch, inspired by the symbolic beauty of the wisteria flower, or "Fuji" in Japanese. This new model marks the second anniversary of Grand Seiko's presence in the Asia Pacific region and serves as a modern reinterpretation of the iconic 44GS design, a timepiece that has become a cornerstone of the brand's identity.
This watch features a case made from Ever-Brilliant Steel, a high-grade stainless steel alloy with superior resistance to corrosion, boasting a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number 1.7 times higher than standard steel. The 40mm diameter case, 14.04mm thick, showcases sharp, clean lines and a mirror-like finish, all polished using Grand Seiko’s Zaratsu technique for an exceptionally smooth surface. The dual-curved sapphire crystal further enhances the dial clarity, while the 100 meter water resistance ensures it performs reliably in various conditions, keeping its pristine look for years.
The dial of this watch features a stunning new color called Fuji-yiro (purple), a traditional Japanese hue symbolizing nobility and elegance, cherished for centuries. The silver-tone applied hour indices are complemented by a black-printed minute track, while the polished hands hour, minute, and seconds are finished in matching silver, creating a harmonious and refined aesthetic. A sleek bezel in the same silver-tone color frames the date window at 3 o'clock, with a distinctive black GMT hand allowing for easy second time zone tracking. Surrounding the dial is a two-tone ring, purple on the top and silver on the bottom, with printed indexes and even numbers from 2 to 24, marking the hours in a 24 hour format for added functionality and style.
The watch is powered by the Hi-Beat 36000 GMT Caliber 9S86, an automatic movement renowned for its exceptional accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day. Operating at a high frequency of 36,000 vph (5 Hz), this movement ensures precise timekeeping and the smooth, seamless motion of the seconds hand. The Caliber 9S86 also boasts a power reserve of 55 hours and features a GMT function, allowing for tracking of a second time zone, making it an ideal choice for world travelers.
It comes with a stainless Steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp, and a purple calf leather strap with pin buckle. This timepiece is a limited edition of 180 pieces, and will be available exclusively at the Grand Seiko boutique at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and authorised retailers across the region from 1st December 2024.
