A Novel Case Crafted From Octagonal Carbon Components
Girard-Perregaux is a Swiss watch manufacturer established in 1791. Recognized in the horological industry, it operates from its base in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 2019, the company launched a variation of the 1975 Laureato Absolute.
In Geneva Watch Days 2023, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech, the latest addition to the Laureato Absolute collection was introduced, representing a fusion of cutting-edge technology and horological artistry. Crafted from a composite of carbon and titanium, this innovative material not only provides exceptional durability but also keeps the watch incredibly lightweight, ensuring comfort during wear.
The case material is composed of unidirectional, non-braided and pre-impregnated carbon fibers, further enhanced with lightweight titanium powder to create exceptionally thin layers, these layers are stacked atop each other, each with a unique orientation. Subsequently, these layered stacks are precision-cut into octagonal shapes, marking an innovative industry achievement.
Notably, the case is five times lighter than steel, and reminiscent of Damascus steel measuring at 44mm in diameter and 15.15mm in height, featuring an anti-reflective sapphire crystal on the front and a sapphire crystal on the back, and providing water resistance up to 100m.
The sandwich gray dial features a top layer with a sandblasted finish in a gradient gray shade, beneath it lies a Grade 5 titanium layer, partially visible through arrow-tipped openings on the upper surface. These arrow-shaped openings function as markers, while adjacent rectangular markings are treated with luminescence, emitting a white glow in low-light conditions. On the dial lies the chronograph function holding in a 60 seconds counter at 3 o’clock, and a 12 hours counter at 6 o’clock, while the 30 seconds counter lies at 9 o’clock, baton-type hands and indices coated in gray PVD treatment with Luminescence, and a small date window positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock.
Under The smoked sapphire crystal, lies the In-house self-winding caliber GP03300-1058, Operating at 28,000 vph, and boosting 46 hours of power reserve. The movement comprises 419 components and features
finishing touches such as Côtes de Genève, chamfering, and straight graining, incorporating traditional Girard-Perregaux skills.
The Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech comes with an integrated black rubber strap featuring a fabric-effect look and gray stitching, with a folding titanium buckle coated with black PVD treatment that incorporates a micro adjustment system, Enabling the wearer to adjust the strap size with ease.
