A Musical Masterpiece Inspired by the Past, Echoing with Classic Elegance
Since the beginning of his career, Gérald Genta has been renowned for his deep passion for acoustic complications, particularly the Minute Repeater, which represents the pinnacle of technical and artistic watchmaking challenges. Genta continuously sought to blend advanced mechanics with distinctive acoustic performance, redefining the experience of time through sound.
Today, during the Geneva Watch Days exhibition, the brand unveiled this latest musical masterpiece, embodying a rich heritage and technical innovation in both design and craftsmanship. The "Gérald Genta Minute Repeater" is a classic piece, deeply inspired by the elegance and craftsmanship of the past. Its design and sound transport us back to a different era.
The case of the watch is crafted from luxurious 18K yellow gold (3N), measuring 40mm in diameter and 9.6mm in thickness. It features a refined combination of brushed and polished finishes, complemented by central lug modules that enhance its architectural appeal. Both the front and case back are fitted with sapphire crystals, offering a clear view of the intricate mechanics within. The crown is elegantly adorned with a black onyx cabochon, adding a touch of classic sophistication to the overall design. The case back, secured by four screws, blends 18K yellow gold with sapphire crystal for durability and aesthetic harmony.
The dial of the Gérald Genta Minute Repeater is crafted from lustrous black onyx, a tribute to Mr. Genta’s longstanding affinity for stone dials. Matching the cabochon set into the crown, the deep black surface offers a sense of visual continuity and understated luxury. Surrounding the dial is a uniquely contoured railroad-style minute track, subtly curved to follow the lines of the cushion-shaped case, a refined detail that enhances the dial’s architectural harmony. Polished and rounded yellow gold hour indices are applied directly onto the onyx, paired with matching hour and minute hands crafted in 3N yellow gold. The absence of a second hand reinforces the watch’s timeless elegance, evoking the purity and restraint of classical watchmaking.
The watch is powered by the Calibre GG-002, a hand-wound movement developed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. Designed specifically to house a minute repeater complication, the movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers an impressive 80-hour power reserve. It drives the hours, minutes, and the chiming mechanism with remarkable precision, utilizing a total of 316 components. The finishing reflects traditional Swiss watchmaking at its finest, with Côtes de Genève on the bridges and perlage on the baseplate.
It comes with a black sheep leather strap and a yellow gold pin buckle, and while not a limited edition, production of the Gérald Genta Minute Repeater is strictly capped at just 10 pieces per year. Pricing is available upon request.
