Four new variants with a range of material options
Genus was established in 2019 and stands as an independent watchmaker that unveiled the world's inaugural and exclusive timepiece featuring an articulated dragon, symbolically expressing the passage of time as we say in The Rainbow Green. The brand is Co-founded in Geneva by the talented watchmaker Sébastien Billières and the visionary entrepreneur Catherine Henry.
According to Chinese culture, the year 2024 is marked as the Chinese Year of the Dragon, and Genus introduces an entire family of Dragons, consisting of four captivating releases in rich colors and materials, presenting a kaleidoscope of combinations titled GENUS DRAGON.
Captivated by the allure of the dragon, GENUS embarked on a creative journey in 2021, crafting interpretations that breathe new life into this legendary creature. Each piece within this collection is a testament to the brand's commitment to artistic creations, weaving a tapestry of enchantment inspired by the enigmatic qualities of the dragon. The case of these watches offers a range of material options, including 18K white gold, 18K rose gold, Grade 5 titanium, or Damascus titanium, all sharing the same dimensions measuring 43mm in diameter and 18.8mm in thickness. The crown is available in 18K gold or titanium, adorned with the embossed letters G-E-N-U-S around its circumference, ensuring a firm grip. The glass on both sides contributes to the overall appeal, featuring a domed "glass box" sapphire crystal on the dial side and an open caseback with sapphire crystal, each treated with an anti-reflective coating and providing 30 meters of water resistance.
The display complications of these timepieces are a testament to their innovative design. The dial features 12 satellite hour indices marked by peripheral and axial rotation. The tens-of-minutes are elegantly portrayed by 11 free-moving elements circulating between two counter-rotating foci, forming the stylized shape of a hand-engraved 18K gold dragon. The minutes are displayed on a skeletonized disc, and the numerals and indicators are enhanced with Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility in various lighting conditions. Reading the time is an exceptional experience, the hour is indicated by the alignment of the satellite index with the fixed arrow pointing left on the left side, moving from left to right. The center of the dial showcases the dragon's head for tens-of-minutes; and on the right, the minute is indicated by the alignment of the numerals with the fixed arrow pointing left. This intricate arrangement not only showcases technical prowess but also adds a touch of artistic flair to the timekeeping experience.
The heart of this exceptional timepiece beats with the Caliber 160W-1.2, a hand-wound movement that is crafted in the GENUS workshops in Geneva. The movement boasts a mainplate and bridges made from 18K gold, and it operates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz), and offers 50 hours of power reserve. The modular construction is marked by two complementary sections, each with dedicated roles, one for energy storage and transmission, and the other for distribution and regulation.
The Genus dragon collection comes with an array of strap options, choose from alligator, saddle-finish calf leather, or padded and stitched rubber, each available in a variety of colors to suit individual preferences. The pin buckle is crafted from either 18K gold, Grade 5 titanium, or Damascus titanium, depending on the case material, with the option of a folding clasp upon request. As for pricing, both 18K white and rose gold variants are priced at CHF 174,400 which is equivalent to AED 743,000, while the Damascus titanium option is offered at CHF 171,000 which is equivalent to AED 730,000. The Grade 5 titanium model is available at CHF 140,650 which is equivalent to AED 600,000 . For the gem-set and bespoke versions, prices are available upon request.
