In collaboration with illustrator Ryoko Kanita, the Chinese dragon in the style of Japanese Manga
It has become a tradition in the watchmaking industry to release special edition timepieces every Lunar New Year to mark the procession of animals in the Chinese zodiac. As the Year of the Dragon approaches, Franck Muller has unveiled the Cintrée Curvex Ryoko Kaneta Dragon Limited Edition, taking a refreshingly unconventional approach to the mythical creature. Unlike most dragon-themed watches that adopt a serious tone, Franck Muller honors this occasion with a playfully designed timepiece. For this edition, the company collaborated with the Japanese artist specializing in manga-style paintings, Ryoko Kaneta. This exclusive collaboration, available only at the brand's stores in Asia, transforms the mythical beast into a character with doll-like features typical of Japanese anime, featuring 12 dragons on a turquoise dial adorned with the brand's signature oversized Arabic numerals.
The timepiece features a stainless steel Cintrée Curvex case, showcasing craftsmanship with its hand-polished finish. The case is not only a testament to precision but also incorporates a sapphire crystal, ensuring a clear and durable protective layer. With water resistance of up to 30 meters, this watch seamlessly combines elegance with functionality, much like previous editions from the Cintrée Curvex ladies' collection. Its dimensions, measuring at a width of 32 mm, a length of 45 mm, and a thickness of 9.35 mm, contribute to a harmonious balance of sophistication and sleek design, making it a remarkable accessory for those who appreciate both style and performance.
This remarkable timepiece features a stamped guilloché dial with a captivating sun pattern and is enriched with 25 layers of lacquer for depth. The Arabic numerals are adorned with 12 illustrated dragons, adding a touch of artistic mystique. while the three Spade hands add a classic touch to the dial. The dragon characters on the dial are printed in black, white, and aqua blue lacquer, and positioned around each of the Arabic numerals. According to the brand,, the Cintrée Curvex most striking feature is its curvilinear elements, which extend in all three dimensions – this was what inspired her to have her figures interact with the dial’s indices. Other design elements specific to this release is the turquoise finish on the radial, stamped guilloché as well as the artist’s name replacing the customary “CURVEX” inscription at six.
Inside is the FM 2536-SC, an in-house movement with a bi-directional winding system and a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is adorned with a hand-sewn alligator strap and secured with a hand-polished stainless steel buckle. The Cintrée Curvex Ryoko Kaneta Dragon Limited Edition is exclusive to Asia Pacific, and will be available in a limited run of just 500 pieces. The watch is priced at USD 13,400 which is equivalent to 49,200 AED.
