An Elegant Dial Crafted with Rose Gold on a Meteorite Dial, Marking a Groundbreaking Development
Formex, the Swiss company, unveils the new Essence Space Gold Automatic timepieces. The company, with whom we had an amazing meeting during Geneva Watches Week, hosted by Mr. Rafael Granito, CEO, gave us a glimpse of the company's upcoming releases.
The Essence collection was a significant breakthrough for Swiss Formex, combining noteworthy elements of the brand’s core DNA with a versatile and modern sports design. Now, it comes with an innovative dial idea: a meteorite stone covered with gold.
Encased in hand-finished stainless steel, Formex’s best-selling Essence ThirtyNine model is designed with high-performance bikes and racing cars in mind. It features the brand’s patented case suspension system, which integrates four springs between the upper and lower watch case. This system provides ultimate shock absorption, protecting the mechanical movement and offering unparalleled comfort to the wearer.
With a slim case design of just 10 mm and curved lugs, the Essence ThirtyNine ensures a perfect fit on your wrist. The vertical brush finish on the case and bezel is complemented by hand-finished mirror-polished bevels.
The utilization of 18k rose gold on authentic meteorite dials marks a groundbreaking advancement for the brand’s family-owned dial manufacture. While coloring meteorite isn't a novel idea, Formex takes a departure from the conventional PVD coating method. Instead, an innovative process harnesses the meteorite’s abundant iron content to enable genuine gold deposition through electroplating.
This infusion of precious metal enhances the mesmerizing Widmanstätten pattern inherent in the Muonionalusta meteorite, endowing each dial with captivating depth and an unmistakable touch of refinement. As these textures are organic and impossible to replicate artificially, every dial becomes a truly unique work of art.
The harmony between brushed surfaces and mirror-polished chamfers resonates throughout each component, from the case to the dial, from the hands and machined indices to the applied Formex logo. To improve legibility, these elements undergo a gun-metal finish, heightening the contrast against the dial. Deeply filled with luminous Super-LumiNova® BGW9, the hour and minute hands, along with the indices, ensure precise timekeeping even in low-light conditions.
Powering the watch is a Swiss Made, COSC-Certified Chronometer Sellita SW200-1 self-winding movement, boasting an extended power reserve of 41 hours. the highest quality "Chronometer" grade due to its inclusion of premium components not commonly found in standard versions of this caliber. Notably, it features a balance wheel renowned for its exceptional hardness, stability, and resistance to deformation, as well as its non-magnetic and non-corrosive properties. The fully decorated automatic movement showcases thermally blued screws and is wound by Formex’s custom-built skeletonized rotor.
Each of these movements undergoes independent certification by the COSC (the official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and undergoes a meticulous 15-day rate test to ensure exceptional levels of mechanical accuracy, reliability, and precision.
Priced at 8,900 AED, The first 100 units are numbered and available for pre-order now, with delivery scheduled for early July 2024.
