Introducing Formex Unveils the Field Automatic Gen 2

The independent Swiss brand Formex was founded in 2000 and revitalized in 2016 under the leadership of Raphael Granito. It has since built a reputation for combining precision engineering with comfort innovations, as seen in many of its Essence and REEF collections. Formex also offers a third line named Field, a collection inspired by military watches with vintage touches. While we haven’t heard from this line in some time, that changes today with the launch of the Field Automatic Gen 2, as the brand sharpens its vision of the modern field watch.

Where the original Field carved a path, the second-generation model widens it, thanks to meaningful technical upgrades and three striking new dial colors: Ice Blue, Coho Salmon, and Basalt Grey.

The watch features a 40mm Grade 2 titanium case, measuring 10.5mm in height. Lightweight, anti-magnetic, hypoallergenic, and corrosion-resistant, the case weighs just 54 grams (1.9 oz). It undergoes a proprietary hard-coating process that boosts scratch resistance from 145 Vickers to an impressive 900 HV, nearly three times harder than even Grade 5 titanium. The case is paired with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating and a matching Grade 2 titanium case back. Water resistance is rated at 150 meters.

The new dual-component dial features a flat, sunburst-finished center disc with a sloped minute track that extends the radial brushing. It also includes recessed 5-minute markers and sandwich-style stencil numerals, all deeply filled with color-adjusted Super-LumiNova Grade A. The Ice Blue and Coho Salmon variants use blacked-out lume, while the Basalt Grey version employs Super-LumiNova BGW09. A grainy-textured ring and a beveled, date window at 6 o’clock create a three-dimensional layout. The vertically brushed hands are also filled with Super-LumiNova Grade A, enhancing legibility.

Powering the watch is a Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1, an automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), and a 41-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a choice of nylon Velcro straps in black, blue, or khaki green, or Bolgheri leather straps in black, leone brown, caraffa brown, blue, or violet. The leather options include a carbon fiber composite clasp with Formex’s patented 7mm gradual fine-adjustment system. All straps feature a tool-free quick-release system, allowing users to swap them effortlessly.

The Formex Field Automatic Gen 2 is available for pre-order starting May 22, 2025. Prices begin at CHF 750 (equivalent to AED 3,650) with a nylon or Velcro strap, and CHF 890 (equivalent to AED 4,350) with a leather strap and carbon deployant clasp. Deliveries are expected to begin in late June 2025.
