The indie German watchmaker introduces his first entirely in-house movement
Felipe Pikullik unveils the new Sternenhimmel FPA1, a significant milestone for the Berlin-based independent watchmaker as it introduces his first fully proprietary movement, developed entirely from the ground up. Named FPA1, short for Felipe Pikullik Architektur Eins, the calibre establishes a new technical foundation intended to support the future of the atelier’s collection. While the familiar aventurine dial preserves a visual connection to Pikullik’s earlier work, the mechanics beneath signal a decisive transition: from modification to construction, and from learning to true creation.
This release marks a clear turning point for the young German watchmaker. What began as a small atelier dedicated to refining and transforming existing movements has now evolved into something far more ambitious. The second generation of the Sternenhimmel is built around a newly developed in-house movement, representing a meaningful step toward genuine mechanical independence.
For the Sternenhimmel FPA1, the polished and brushed stainless steel case has been resized and refined. Now more compact, it measures 39mm in diameter, 10.5mm in thickness, and 47.5mm lug-to-lug. A notable addition is the integration of four pushers within the lugs. At present, only one is active, serving as a quick-set corrector for the date without interrupting timekeeping, while the remaining three are reserved for future complications. The bezel is also distinguished by a special engraved decoration.
Preserving the visual identity of the Sternenhimmel, the dial is crafted from aventurine glass and offered in either deep blue or green, its shimmering granular surface evoking a star-filled sky. Two diamonds positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock add a discreet touch of refinement. The display is further characterised by an applied and engraved nameplate, an open-heart aperture revealing the balance, and a retrograde date indication spanning from 10 to 2 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the new Felipe Pikullik Architektur Eins (FPA1) calibre, which introduces an entirely fresh architecture rather than adapting an existing base movement. In doing so, Pikullik moves beyond his previous creations, which relied on modified ETA or Unitas calibres. Visually, however, the movement remains unmistakably aligned with the brand’s aesthetic language.
This hand-wound movement operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour and delivers a 46-hour power reserve. The crown and winding wheels of the FPA1 feature wolf’s-tooth gearing, a classical technical solution chosen for smoother energy transfer, reduced friction, and improved long-term durability. Meanwhile, the click mechanism, often left exposed in Pikullik’s earlier watches — is here enclosed within its own structure, preventing microscopic debris generated during winding from spreading across the movement.
The hand-crafted balance wheel, produced within the atelier itself, represents a major technical milestone and underlines the brand’s ambition to bring more of its production in-house. The bridges, made from untreated German silver, are finished with hand-executed tremblage, creating a richly textured granular surface that contrasts beautifully with polished bevels and sharply defined edges.
The Sternenhimmel FPA1 is delivered with two straps: a rubberised leather strap and a full rubber strap. While the watch is not limited, production will remain intentionally low due to the scale of the atelier. It is priced at EUR 17,500, approximately AED 74,000.
