A Tribute to the 94th Birthday of the Legendary American Author and Explorer
Doxa marks what would have been the 94th birthday of American novelist and explorer Clive Cussler with a new limited edition: the SUB 750T Clive Cussler. This latest release pays tribute to the famed author, who penned or co-authored over 85 novels and founded the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) in 1979 a non-profit organization dedicated to the discovery and preservation of maritime heritage. Cussler’s enduring connection to Doxa, often referenced in his works, continues to inspire special editions like last year’s commemorative models.
The new SUB 750T Clive Cussler represents the third chapter in Doxa’s ongoing homage to the celebrated writer and explorer, following the SUB 300T Clive Cussler and the stealthy SUB 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler. This time, Doxa presents a bold diver’s watch, featuring a large 45mm stainless steel case and an impressive 750-meter water resistance, reviving a design first introduced 20 years ago, now reimagined with a sleeker, more contemporary profile.
Despite its imposing 45mm diameter, the watch’s 47mm lug-to-lug measurement ensures a more wearable fit. The 11.95mm thick case combines brushed and polished finishes, complemented by a unidirectional rotating bezel for tracking no-decompression dive times. A screw-down crown and screwed-in caseback guarantee robust underwater performance.
On the reverse, the solid screw-in caseback features an engraved compass rose, symbolizing Cussler’s passion for exploration and NUMA’s continued efforts in uncovering maritime mysteries. Each cardinal point of the rose represents a core element of Cussler’s legacy: truth, mystery, discovery, and the fulfillment of adventure.
The dial stays true to Doxa’s iconic identity, presented in the signature Professional Orange, the same vibrant hue seen in the recent SUB 300T Aristera Professional, the brand’s first left-handed dive watch. Black printed indices and oversized hands, all treated with Super-LumiNova, ensure optimal readability in low-light environments. A date window sits at 3 o’clock, with the numerals 7, 15, and 31 highlighted in orange to commemorate Cussler’s birthday and the Sahara release date. At 7:30, the NUMA logo subtly honors the non-profit agency’s mission.
Powering the SUB 750T Clive Cussler is the automatic Sellita SW300 movement, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and delivering a 56-hour power reserve.
The watch is fitted with a stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet, secured by an extendable push-button folding clasp, and comes with an additional orange NATO strap featuring a central black stripe and a stainless steel pin buckle.
Limited to just 94 numbered pieces, a tribute to Cussler’s 94th birthday the SUB 750T Clive Cussler is priced at CHF 2,690 (approximately AED 12,400). A portion of proceeds from sales will support NUMA’s ongoing efforts to protect and preserve maritime heritage.
