Introducing Dior Celebrates the Year of the Horse with a Special Grand Soir Edition

A mother-of-pearl dial showcasing the Maison’s mastery of gemstone setting

The French fashion house has celebrated the Chinese New Year in recent years with increasingly refined creations that offer far more than a timepiece. This year, with the Dior Grand Soir Year of the Horse, the Maison presents a creation that lies somewhere between narrative jewellery and horological artwork. This exclusive watch pays tribute to the Year of the Horse in the Chinese lunar calendar while drawing on the exceptional artisanal savoir-faire of the Dior Ateliers. Produced in a limited series of just 30 pieces, it joins the prestigious Grand Soir collection.

The 36 mm case is crafted in polished stainless steel and framed by an 18K rose-gold bezel set with 52 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling approximately 1.30 carats.

An anti-reflective sapphire crystal ensures excellent legibility without detracting from the dial’s ornate composition. On the reverse, a translucent sapphire caseback reveals the discreet mechanics beneath, enhanced by rose-gold-coloured metallisation that harmonises with the bezel and hands. Water resistance is rated to 30 metres.

The dial is undoubtedly the watch’s most spectacular feature. Dior honours the Year of the Horse through a reimagined Toile de Jouy scene, where a central horse figure moves through an enchanted forest rendered in white mother-of-pearl, 18K rose gold, and multicoloured gemstones.

Six blue sapphires, seven yellow sapphires, seven amethysts, and six spessartite garnets, each weighing approximately 0.02 carat, are set into the dial. Rather than serving as hour markers, these stones contribute to the dial’s visual storytelling, complementing the faceted rose-gold-tone hands, which remain elegant and understated.

Powering the watch is the reliable Sellita SW300, a Swiss automatic calibre with bidirectional winding. Known for its robustness and slim profile, it delivers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours and drives the essential hours and minutes functions. The choice of this calibre allows for a thin, well-balanced case architecture.

The watch is fitted with a beige calfskin leather strap that finished with a satin texture that reflects light elegantly. The strap closed with a steel pin buckle conceals 18 additional diamonds (0.18 ct).

Released in a limited edition of 30 pieces, the Dior Grand Soir Year of the Horse is already sold out. Its retail price was EUR 41,000 (approximately AED 178,225).
