Introducing David Candaux Launches the DC12 MaveriK

Inspired by the Texan rancher Samuel Maverick’s legacy

Independent watchmaking has always thrived on daring ideas and uncompromising craftsmanship, and few embody this spirit as strongly as David Candaux. In 2017, the Swiss watchmaker established his namesake brand, setting the stage for creations that have earned him thirty-nine patents and solidified his reputation as one of the most inventive artisans of his generation.

The release of the DC12 MaveriK today marks a new chapter in the brand’s evolution. Its name pays homage to Samuel A. Maverick, the Texan rancher who defied convention by refusing to brand his cattle. The final “K” stands for kinetic energy and strength, reflecting both the movement’s complexity and the bold aesthetics of the piece.

The watch is housed in a titanium case measuring 39.5 mm in diameter and 11.7 mm in thickness, with a slightly higher profile of 11.9 mm when including the sapphire crystals. Its top-loading construction and curved lugs ensure seamless integration with the wrist, while alternating brushed and polished surfaces emphasize the asymmetric design flowing from 6 to 12 o’clock. A discreet yet innovative element is the so-called “Magic Crown,” integrated directly into the case for optimal ergonomics and offering three positions, neutral, winding, and time setting. The case is water resistant to 50 meters.

The dial is crafted in nickel silver and features a rounded elliptical opening that mirrors the case contours. At its center lies a white opal disc, encircled by diamond-polished rings, while applied three-dimensional indexes in grey gold and black pad-printed numerals ensure crisp legibility. Heat-blued hour and minute hands catch the light at every angle. At 12 o’clock, the small seconds display is integrated within the planetary differential, completing a 60-second rotation. At 6 o’clock, the inscription “Le Cœur et l’Esprit” (The Heart and Mind) reflects Candaux’s philosophy of uniting technical mastery with creative vision.

Inside beats the Calibre C30, a manually wound movement conceived and produced entirely in-house. Its seven-level architecture is both technically ambitious and visually striking, comprising 258 components and 45 jewels. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz), it delivers a power reserve of 58 hours.

Its defining feature is the free double balance system, linked by a patented flying satellite planetary mechanism mounted on a hairspring shock absorber. This invention allows the two balances to interact in real time, averaging their deviations to ensure exceptional stability. Two additional patents cover the winding system and crown operation. The titanium bridges are finished to the highest standards, with beveled edges, snow-grained surfaces, and mirror-polished inward angles.

Completing the watch is a handmade rubber strap secured by a Velcro clasp engraved with the David Candaux logo. The DC12 MaveriK joins the permanent collection, priced at 98,000 CHF which is equivalent to 451,600 AED.
