Introducing Daniel Roth Unveils The Extra Plat Souscription

In the year 2000, Daniel Roth was acquired by Bvlgari, and by 2011, both brands went under the ownership of the giant LVMH. Last year, LVMH made a bold move with the introduction of the Souscription Tourbillon, a modern interpretation of Roth’s 1989 masterpiece, the C187.

The success of this initial tourbillon sparked renewed hope that Daniel Roth’s heritage would once again shine brightly. Now, just a year later, the brand has unveiled its second Souscription model: the Daniel Roth Extra Plat Souscription, as part of its participation in LVMH watch week.

The watch marks the next step in the revival of this storied name. First launched in 1990, the Extra Plat, following the Tourbillon, embodies Mr. Roth’s vision of elegance and refinement. The case of the new piece, crafted from 18k yellow gold, measures 38.6mm x 35.5mm and retains the iconic double-ellipse shape that made Daniel Roth’s timepieces so uniquely recognizable. While it maintains the same length and width as the Tourbillon, the Daniel Roth Extra Plat case is further distinguished by a reduced thickness of just 7.7mm, its name "Extra Plat" meaning extra thin.

Unlike its predecessor, this time-only model forgoes complications, focusing purely on the art of simplicity. The dial features a stunning in-house hand-finished Clous de Paris guilloché pattern, crafted from yellow gold using an antique 1935 machine. The filet sauté guilloché border (meaning up-and-down guilloché lines) is applied to both the base and chapter ring, with a machine dating back to 1850. The dial is composed of two parts: the base and the chapter ring, with each dial requiring 10 hours of work by a single artisan. The hands are made of blued steel, while the Roman numerals are rendered in blue.

Powering the watch is the Caliber DR002, a new movement designed exclusively for this release, developed and assembled at the La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton facility. This ultra-thin (3.1mm) manual-winding caliber operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offers a 65-hour power reserve.

The watch is paired with a Taupe Calfskin leather strap, and only 20 pieces will be produced. Each piece is priced at CHF 45,000, approximately AED 182,500.
