Introducing Daniel Roth Unveils Extra Plat Skeleton

A beautiful skeleton release that marks a bold new step of creativity

Long before it became synonymous with a modern resurgence under La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, Daniel Roth was already a name that carried weight among serious collectors. Founded in 1988 by master watchmaker Daniel Roth, the brand emerged as a defining voice in independent Swiss watchmaking at a time when quartz technology threatened traditional craft. Roth’s early work earned admiration for its mechanical sophistication and for a striking double-ellipse case shape, a design that became a touchstone for the Maison and clearly distinguished it from its peers.

Production eventually ceased, yet the legacy endured. In 2023, after years of dormancy under previous ownership, the brand was reimagined as an independent entity within the LVMH family. This revival placed Daniel Roth’s heritage firmly in the hands of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. Under the stewardship of master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini, the reborn Daniel Roth introduced new interpretations of the Extra Plat in rose gold and yellow gold, as well as a Tourbillon model that honors the founder’s original spirit while updating its mechanical and aesthetic language for today’s collectors.

Now the brand takes another bold step with the Extra Plat Skeleton, a watch that approaches the idea of reduction from an unexpected angle. Instead of pursuing thinness through technical minimalism alone, the brand explores transparency as a form of architecture.

The case measures 38.6 mm in length by 35.5 mm in width and has a thickness of 6.9 mm. It is crafted from 18K 5N rose gold. The familiar double-ellipse form remains intact, preserving the proportions that have defined Daniel Roth since the early years. Polished surfaces trace the double curve of the case, while the slender profile places the watch among the thinnest expressions of the line. The reduction in height compared with previous versions subtly alters the way light travels across the gold, emphasizing horizontality rather than volume. Flat sapphire crystals close both sides of the case, allowing uninterrupted views through the structure. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.

The skeleton display reveals a rose gold architecture. The hands are executed in blued steel with the characteristic arrowhead shape, and there are no indices. The indication is limited to hours and minutes without tracks or markers, allowing the movement itself to replace the traditional dial. Bridges in matching 5N rose gold occupy the foreground, carved with interior angles and polished bevels that catch light from every direction.

The watch is powered by the manual-winding calibre DR002SR with a frequency of 4 Hz and a power reserve of 65 hours. Plates and bridges are fashioned from rose gold and extensively skeletonized while retaining structural rigidity. Developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under the supervision of Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini, the movement measures only 3.1 mm in height, enabling the overall slim profile of the watch.

The watch is fitted with a beige calfskin leather strap secured by an 18K rose gold pin buckle. It is not a numbered limited edition but will be produced in limited quantities as part of the permanent collection, and the price is CHF 85,000, approximately AED 390,800.
