Gold-Plated Timepiece with Dial Inspired by Ancient Japanese Culture
Citizen's achievements are not limited to quartz innovation. The brand has also produced numerous mechanical watch collections that have earned praise for their high quality and affordability. One of the standout lines is the Series 8, which represents a perfect balance between contemporary design and mechanical precision. The Series 8 has become a key offering for Citizen, with several successful releases, including the iconic “Series 8 880 GMT”, launched to commemorate the brand’s 100th anniversary of producing its first watch. Today, Citizen announces the expansion of this advanced collection with a new version of the same model, but in different color variations. The new “Series 8 880 GMT” marks the brand's official introduction for the new year, offering a unique timepiece that continues to reflect Citizen’s evolution in the luxury watch market.
The watch comes in a robust 41mm stainless steel case with a sophisticated brushed and polished finish, coated in both yellow and rose gold for a refined, two-tone aesthetic. The case is complemented by a bi-directional rotating bezel with a striking black and green insert, offering both style and functionality. It is topped with a sapphire crystal, enhanced with an anti-reflective coating to ensure clarity and durability. The watch also boasts a sapphire crystal caseback, allowing a clear view of the movement inside. With a 100m water resistance rating, this timepiece is designed to withstand everyday wear and light aquatic activities, making it as practical as it is elegant.
The watch features a black dial adorned with a traditional Japanese square pattern, adding a unique and elegant touch. The dial is enhanced with gold-plated indexes and hands, all filled with luminescent material for enhanced legibility in low light. A white printed minute track runs between the hour markers, adding a refined detail to the overall design. The GMT hand, with its distinct orange triangle tip, provides an additional time zone indication, making this watch ideal for travelers. A date window at the 3 o'clock position further adds to the functionality and balance of the dial, combining style with practicality.
The watch is powered by the Caliber 9054, a mechanical movement developed exclusively for Citizen by Miyota. Featuring a GMT function, the movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz), and boasts a power reserve of up to 50 hours. It offers reliable performance with an average daily accuracy of -10/+20 seconds and a magnetic resistance of up to 16,000 A/m. Aesthetic details like cotes de geneve decoration on the rotor add a touch of elegance, all visible through the transparent case back.
It comes with a bracelet in two-tone yellow and rose gold-plated stainless steel, and priced at EUR 1,295 equivalent to AED 5,180.
