Merging Japanese Pixel Art with the Playful Vision of French Artist Romaric André
Citizen Watch is expanding its TSUYOSA collection with vibrant new models that inject colour and fun into everyday wear. Leading the release is the first-ever TSUYOSA collaboration with French creative studio seconde/seconde/, resulting in a watch that blends art, humour, and distinctive design. Four additional sporty TSUYOSA models are also launching alongside this collaboration.
The collaboration piece is based on the classic 40 mm TSUYOSA, with a height of 11.7 mm. Its stainless steel case alternates polished accents with brushed surfaces and is topped with a sapphire crystal featuring a magnifier over the date. The signature crown sits at 4 o’clock, maintaining the collection’s familiar profile.

The case back bears a witty message from seconde/seconde/: “Being smaller has never stopped Minutes from slicing Hours into pieces.”

For this model, seconde/seconde/ drew inspiration from the TSUYOSA name, meaning “power” and “strength” in Japanese. The minute hand is transformed into a katana, symbolizing that power, rendered in the pixel-art style of retro Japanese video games. In a playful twist, the indices appear sliced in half by the razor-sharp sword. Both the dial and the sword’s hilt feature a striking blue colour that highlights this quirky and offbeat design.
Powering the watch is Citizen’s in-house Calibre 8210, an automatic movement beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and offering a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The limited-edition model also features an openworked rotor with silver-toned bridges and plates, enhancing the visual appeal from the back.
The watch is presented on a three-link steel bracelet with brushed and polished surfaces, secured by a folding clasp decorated with the logos of both parties and subtle sword slashes.
The TSUYOSA x seconde/seconde/ edition is limited to 3,600 pieces—a number inspired by the 3,600 seconds in an hour, echoing the katana slicing through the dial. It is priced at EUR 449, approximately AED 1,940.
