A Contemporary Dive Watch Featuring A Transparent Sapphire Dial
Christopher Ward expands its dive-watch portfolio with the release of the C60 Sapphire Edge White, a reference that uses transparent materials to reinterpret the traditional visual language of a mechanical tool watch. The concept behind this model centers on the use of lab-grown sapphire not merely as a protective crystal, but as a structural component for both the dial and the bezel insert.
Introduced last year, the C60 Sapphire Edge quickly became one of the brand’s most compelling divers. True to its name, the model paired a sapphire bezel insert with a translucent sapphire dial and caseback, tinting all three elements in blue. It also featured a playful and innovative detail in the form of a luminescent rubber strap, a first for Christopher Ward. Now, the Sapphire Edge returns in a second version. With little fanfare, Christopher Ward has introduced a new white-themed edition.
The watch case measures 42mm in diameter and is made of 316L stainless steel, with a pressure resistance of up to 300 meters and a weight of 70.87 grams. The case is only 10.7mm thick and is protected by sapphire crystal on both sides. Instead of the stainless steel bezel found in the previous Sapphire edition of the C60, this version features a sapphire bezel with multiple layers of Super-LumiNova on the markers. The bezel is unidirectional and designed with 120 clicks.
The dial itself is a thin disc of frosted lab-grown sapphire that partially obscures the underlying Sellita movement while leaving high-contrast components like the date wheel track fully visible. Applied stainless steel indices are secured through the sapphire disc, featuring faceted edges that catch ambient light and deep central channels generously filled with Super-LumiNova Grade X1 GL C1. This specific grade of luminous paint provides a bright, long-lasting green emission.
The handset consists of a broad arrow hour hand and a baton minute hand, both heavily lumed and executed in polished steel to match the hour markers. An orange central seconds hand provides a sharp visual contrast against the monochromatic white and steel backdrop, complete with a luminous tip and the signature Trident counter-balance on the opposing end. At the six o'clock position, a framed date window displays the current day, pulling data from the exposed wheel that traverses the perimeter of the movement beneath the sapphire layer. Encircling the transparent center is an opaque white chapter ring that houses the black minute hashes, anchoring the floating indices and providing a clean transition between the sapphire dial and the inner case wall.
The watch is powered by the Sellita SW300-1 caliber, Measuring 25.6 millimeters in diameter but only 3.6 millimeters, which is 1mm thinner than the SW200-1 movement used in previous C60 models. This design allows the movement to fit within Christopher Ward’s signature "Light Catcher" case, making the watch 2.25mm thinner than earlier versions. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of 56 hours, with an accuracy margin of ±20 seconds per day.
The new edition is available either on a luminous rubber strap or on a 316L stainless steel bracelet equipped with a clasp engraved with Christopher Ward’s twin-flag logo.
Pricing is set at USD 1,420 (approximately AED 5,215) on the rubber strap and USD 1,555 (approximately AED 5,710) on the stainless steel bracelet.
