Paying tribute to America's premier sport and the enduring partnership with former NFL quarterback “Boomer Esiason”
Embarking on the journey of watch manufacturing in the mid-1880s presented formidable challenges. Switzerland was grappling with the depths of a prolonged economic downturn, marked by social unrest and an atmosphere of uncertainty. Undeterred by these adversities, the 24-year-old visionary, Léon Breitling, remained steadfast in his commitment to crafting timepieces. Thus, the inception of Breitling unfolded, fueled by passion that brought into existence their practical, and robust timepieces.
In 1984, the introduction of the “Chronomat” took place during an era dominated by extra-thin quartz timepieces. This marked a pivotal moment in Breitling's history. Amidst the prevailing trend, Breitling made a daring move by presenting a mechanical watch. Based on the Frecce Tricolori chronograph, a collaborative creation launched in 1983 with the renowned Italian aerobatic team of the Italian Air Force.
This year, Breitling unveils the latest edition of the Chronomat B01 42, specifically designed for Super Bowl LVIII, the annual league championship game of the NFL. A limited edition of 58 pieces that pays tribute to America's premier sporting spectacle and the enduring partnership with former NFL quarterback "Boomer Esiason." The new Chronomat features an 18k red gold case measuring 42 mm in diameter and 15.1 mm in thickness, equipped with a glare-proof sapphire crystal on both sides, and 200 meters of water resistance. The latest Super Bowl LVIII Edition showcases a caseback with the Super Bowl LVIII logo printed in red and purple. Additionally, each watch's individual limited-edition number is engraved on the caseback.
The sunburst dial comes in a dark blue shade, complemented by black sub-dials. The dial features luminous baton-shaped hour markers and hands, all crafted in red gold, with small vibrant red accents adorning the chapter ring and the central chronograph seconds hand. The small seconds subdial is positioned at 9 o'clock, while the 30-minute counter is placed at 3 o’clock, and the 6 o’clock position accommodates both a 12-hour counter and a date display.
The timepiece is powered by the brand's in-house Caliber B01 automatic chronograph movement, a COSC-certified chronometer that runs at a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) and offers a 70-hour power reserve. The watch provides a choice between the collection's distinctive Rouleaux bracelet in fully matching 18k red gold or a black rubber strap. The Chronomat B01 42 Super Bowl LVIII edition is priced at USD 23,500, which is equivalent to AED 86,500. Notably, a portion of the proceeds from each watch sale will contribute to supporting the Boomer Esiason Foundation and its dedicated mission to fight cystic fibrosis.
